I am amazed that not 1 Fianna Fail member has resigned their seat or even quit from the party in the past few weeks .

Surley if even one of them had 1 ounce of cred left that they would see the massive failure they have brought on the country and go ?

Holding out for a General Election in the new year IMO just shows how pompous & arrogant , and far from reality they have become.

If they truly believe in Democracy they would have quit months ago .

    A. Because they are FF members.

I think you answered your own question here,

we are lap dogs, we voted them in, we are getting what we deserved.
FF are governing with the same arrogance as they have over the last decade

Also they know we are too scared and weak to go to the streets so bend over.

Is there any way of getting them out of power, forcing them to push forward a general election?
I suppose mass protests is the only way?

    Why give up the benefits?

I'd guess the line goes something like this "I can do more in power" or "Yea things are bad but those guys are worse" and of course the standard "It is not my fault".

How many would have the power to force/call for a GE though? Only look at how FG revolt went down and that was relatively small by comparison. To the end of the days people will look after themselves first and foremost.

Why? They where elected to be there until next election; how is that not democracy? Because people don't like them now? Well let me play a scenario for you: If we had a real politican with balls the size of the moon in power during 2003 to 2008 calling all the right decisions on salary cuts, cost cuts etc. that would have avoided the current situation should they have resigned because they where not popular at the time?

    Good question.

Its an appalling situation we as a nation find ourselves in. I once respected Brian Lenihan and was given a false impression he was making the right decisions, Jesus how wrong was I. It seems not a single decision made was correct. Seems to me the only people coming out of this disgraceful mess with smiles on their faces are some infamous Bankers and developers who appear on the surface to have been given the time to back their bags, sort out their affairs, transfer assets and stick their fingers up at the rest of us.

I suspect FF will implode, not a single member of this party could be ashamed of what has occurred, i predict the party is either going to split or collapse, it will never recover from this debacle.

Is maith an scáthán súil charad.

In fairness to FF party members when it comes to protesting they don't hold back

    examples

the smoking bad - they were strongly against the introduction of this health initiative

the drink driving law - they were against reductions in amt of alcohol permissible whilst driving.

of course, it has to be issues of ,em, public, importance before they will act.

Irish people have very short memories.Give it a few years and FF will be voted back into government, I will not be surprised.I wonder how long a Government like ours would stay in power in Germany,France,UK,Sweden,Norway,Denmark,Canada,New Zealand,Oz,Japan,South Korea,Finland etc etc???????

    Not a fcuking chance !

FF are in serious trouble .

See 10 ,15 , 20 yrs ago FF was in the blood and passed down from generation to generation , but this current (voting age) generation IMO have no allegiance to FF , and any allegiance inherited from their parents is well and truly evaporated .
Dont forget there was a huge property bubble because a " house buying" generation matured together .This same generation IMO have FF in their cross hairs , and will let them know that in the GE .

FF wont be in Govt for decades to come .GOOD ENOUGH !

Why haven't they resigned? I think this is due to the extreme local nature of Irish politics. I'm sure most local TDs think it is unfortunate what has happened to the country and more importantly their party and sure they are more likely to get kicked out at the next election, but I doubt if they feel any personal shame.

From the constituency work point of view, they ran around getting passports for people and sorting planning permission and writing to have pot holes filled in. They did right by their constituency. Nothing to feel guilty about there.

And from the party point of view, they loyally voted according to the wishes of the party. They themselves would have had very little input on the actual decision making so they would not be inclined to feel shame there. You occasionally hear TDs saying that they disagree with a particular issue but nevertheless they will vote with the party and it is not something that they would feel shame about as they would feel that that is the deal; that is what they signed up for.

an honest question - how do we get these people out of power... whats the actual process? I know there is only another shower waiting at the door to step in but waiting for this to happen ... do we just wait until someone says one day - oh new government... whats the actual political process?
