    Hey there,

    Another make up question!

Looking for a nice primer that really brightens up my skin as it's getting a bit dry with the cold weather and want it to look it's best!

Anyone recommend a primer that brightens and keeps your make up put as well?:D

I recommend the smashbox photo finish one.

One to avoid is the no7 matte primer (white tube)
Bought it last night, tried it out this morning....awful stuff. its like trying to smear prit-stick glue to your face. putting foundation on over it was a disaster. it went all streaky and patchy...had to wash it all of and start again without this primer. waste of 17euro

I use smashbox photofinish primer all over my face and urban decay primer potion on my eyes, both are really good! I have mac prep+prime too which is decent but I prefer the smashbox one. I also have "gosh" primer which I got from my local chemist and I think it's awful, it makes my skin look greasy so don't be tempted by the low price!

I've been using the GOSH primer lately and find it just as good as the Smash Box photo finish one.

Seconding both of these- I like the green colour correcting Smashbox primer!

That No7 one is awful, it left chalk-like streaks all over my face. It was beyond useless!

ive heard of people using antichafing creams like lanacane and monistat as primers as the ingredients are very similar and cost alot less than primers.i havent tried it as dont use primers.

Thanks girls, does the Smashbox one brighten your skin as well as set it up for your foundation?

If you have oily skin I would stay clear of Gosh Velvet Touch it tends to be greasy and suits dry skin better. I like the L'Oreal Studio Secrets I have combination skin and it goes on perfect under my make up, for my eyes I use Urban Decay - Primer Potion or Two Faced - Shadow Insurance.

Yup, Smashbox Photo Finish. I love that stuff.

L'Oreal primer wor k for me.

Smashbox was good but then didnt work cos i guess i ve combi skin or my skin change cos of seasons.

Gosh primer was bad, lucky i got free sample cos they were out of stock and let me take a a good sized blob from the tester tube into a small chemsit plastic bottle for free.

Right what's wrong with me that I just don't get primer? I've used a few of them (Gosh, Smashbox, Laura Mercier) and it makes no difference under my foundation whatsoever. What's so special about it? I know girls who wouldn't dare go without but I see zero difference....maybe it's my skin

I wouldn't put foundation on without primer! My forehead is kinda oily, so make up can slide off me there after a few hours but when I use primer, it seems to last better. Plus, I tend to find my foundation just goes on smoother and better when I prime my face first. :) If ya don't it, ya don't it though, no biggie!

Thing is I have quite crappy skin (oily/dry/whatever mood it takes!) so I thought primer might benefit my skin but it seems not. It just feels like it's a wonder product for so many people, I feel like I'm missing out :)

I know the feeling. I never use concealer so when people talk about and how great it is, I wanna be included. Actually went and bought a few concealers once but like, I just don't get it?! So you're not alone. :)

Same! Don't get concealer at all! :)

I use the Gosh Photo Velvet Touch Foundation Primer. I have combination skin and it doesn't make my skin greasy at all, it actually does the opposite.

It make's my make-up look better and last longer.

But for anyone who uses the Smashbox primer, this might be of some use to you:

Has anyone tried the Benefit one and is that good??

Want to know if it'll make a good difference to my skin as the girl above said, don't mind spending money on something once I know it's worth it!

The new Benefit one is great and the Giorgio Armani one is amazing!!

Clinique do a pore perfector that is good too for your t-zone especially.

At the moment the GA one is by far my favourite!

If you want brighter skin, mix a little liquid highligher into your foundation, gives you an extra brightness.

Also didn't like the No& one in the white tube. Made me look like I had toothpaste on my face.

Been trying out the Penneys one (Prime of your Life) which is meant to be a rip off of a Benefit one. It's better than the No7 one and can be worn alone to give a bit of a glow to the face.

Got a sample of a little smashbox one before but it didn't brighten my skin, just smoothed it, would like both effects in one if possible!

Do you no where you can buy the smashbox one or get a sample of it?

I use avon one and it has spf 15, it glides on really smooth, and your skin is very soft afterwards.
