Hi everyone new to boards just thought i might be able to get some advice from you guys.ill try to be short on this one basically i finished my leaving cert in 2006 and didnt do as well as i could have the main thing being i failed maths.i decided i would get a part time job for a year and the look into repeating but i ended up staying in employment as a barman over 3 years until i was let go last year due to the recession.with no luck getting work ive decided getting back into education is probably a better option the problem is i dont really no what i would like to study.would i need to repeat my leaving cert to be able to get into college? is there anywhere i can go to get advice on my options?im just so unsure about what to do any general advice would be appreciated thanks guys :D

    Hiya,

My advice would be to go and do a level 5 course first and use it to gain entry into college. If you have no idea what you would like to do maybe do a course which would have a wide range of course choices...Liberal Arts for example...I would look into finance aswell...money makes the world go round and all that! Best bit of advice also is to go in and speak to a guidance counsellor in your local VEC, they are really helpful and give you all the information you need. Hope this helps :)

I'd say you could get BTEA - Is there a local employment service (LES) near you? They could possibly give you some career advice and the VEC can probably give you some good advice as well

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.
