All this rampant pessimism is seriously pissing me off. Nothing is set in stone until someone has signed an agreement. The IMF and the EU do not have the legal authority to force anything on us without our government agreeing to it. Ergo, at the very least, we have not surrendered our sovereignty in any way, shape or form, until these meetings have concluded and some sort of agreement has been reached.

I REPEAT:
Until an agreement between our country and the EU or the IMF on a bailout has been formally laid down in writing and signed by both parties, we have not surrendered one ounce of sovereignty to anyone.

This whole situation is ridiculous. Nobody suggested that we had surrendered any sovereignty by holding a referendum on Lisbon. The suggestions of a loss of sovereignty by the no side were POTENTIAL suggestions which would only come into effect AFTER we voted in the treaty.

This situation is exactly the same. Sovereignty has not been surrendered until decisions have been formally made and agreed upon.

I agree our government has lied. I'm just as pissed off as anyone. but for ****'s sake can we stop planning a funeral while the deceased is in fact still alive and has not yet let go of the rope and fallen into the abyss below. Can we please stop making a speech accepting our team's defeat when the match hasn't reached full time yet. Can we please stop booking alternative flights when the flights we're already booked into are only "pending possible cancellation" and not yet "cancelled" on the departures board.

Etc etc etc. Feel free to add any appropriate analogy for this situation.

This is why the "Bailout rumours megathread" remains a "rumours" thread - there is still no bailout, no amount, no conditions, only rumours. More than that we cannot really do.
