Ruby Walshes autobiography is the latest edition to be added to the biliography of the sport of kings - I'm expecting a copy for Christmas no doubt!

What have you read and what would you recommend?

I've read the Racing Posts Sea The Stars and Arkle books, and A Race Apart: A History Of The Grand National by Reg Green.

The Grand National book is brilliant, Reg Green was a GN nut born near the track. Excellent book.

Hope nobody buys that for me, Mrs Moloney said she'd cut the balls off him for what he wrote about Thurles :D Barry Hills Francincence is meant to be a great read, you can't get in Easons though as I learned, so try Amazon on line.

    I liked the Nicholls book.

Mick Fitz one was also decent.

Didnt think Mick Fitz's book was that great.

Persian Punch and Moscow Flyers biographies are both excellent reads.

    Hi Nulty,
I could not recommend Seabiscuit highly enough. I have read a lot of Sports books over the years and this has to be my favourite. Its an amazing story! You may have seen the movie, which was good but not a patch on the book.
Reckon i will get a gift of Ruby's book for christmas but to be honest i hope i don't!! Think Ruby is too fond of the money side of things for my liking!! Great jockey or not.

If I got Ruby's book it would be going back for credit. I liked Frankie's book.

    Thanks for the replies.

When I said I was expecting the Ruby book, I meant how predictable my presents will be - not that I'm going to ask for it :p

I haven't seen the Seabiscuit movie Maximo so I reckon I'l buy the book. Thanks.

    Thanks all. Keep em coming

Seabiscuit's a good film. So is the Dark Knight,it's about a horse I think.

The Vincent O'Brien book which came out a few years back was exceptional.

Think Graham Bradley's book is up there with the best I've read.

Enemy Number One by Patrick Veitch is alright too, bit difficult to read in parts but enjoyable enough.

Think I might write out a list of books and leave it lying around for people to find for Christmas.

Jack Berry's "It's Tougher At the Bottom" is phenomenal. Absolutely hilarious. He has a more recent one out I think but I've never read it.

Vincent O'Brien - in the middle of it. Unbelievable really. If you were handed a hollywood script about a trainer who achieved the things he did when he did, you'd dismiss it as far-fetched. The man was 100 years ahead of his time.

Two Robert Sangster books - both also fantastic

I agree about the Veitch book, i thought he talked himself up way too much.. His arrogance and the way he wrote about Trainers i thought he was seriously kidding himself. I know he's a punter who can afford to study races all day, but come on.... lol

i'd recommend Dave Nevison's books, very entertaining. Northern Dancer, the legend & his legacy also worth a read

If your gonna get the Seabiscuit book, get the biography rather than the book of the film. WAY better imho.
    Also,
    Mick Fitz-Better Than Sex
    Timmy Murphy-Riding the Storm(loved this)
Henrietta Knight-Best Mate(signed copy, loved it also)
anything by Anne Holland, such as The History of Steeplechasing:250years.

Just finished Northern Dancer: The Legend and His Legacy

Really enjoyable read. Its about 60/40 about his life and then some horses he got like Nijinsky, The Minstrel and a great story about Nureyev - hence the Legend/Legacy in the title. Only about 130 pages so easy to get through.
