Overwhelmed by iPhone info

I am interested in getting an iPhone 4, but I have no idea what network to go for and trying to read the websites etc is all a bit overwhelming, and I'm never sure whether the sites are giving the whole truth...

Basically I have never been on a bill phone before, and I only spend 20euro credit a month on prepay so I don't want to go to paying a whopper bill. I use the phone I have now mainly for texts, very seldom for calls. If I was to move to the iPhone, I would use the internet while out and about.

Any suggestions as to what would be the best network and plan to go for? Or should I just accept that I am not destined for iPhone greatness?:(

Save up and buy one on Prepay. Cheapest bill is about €40 a month. Thats double what your spending. If your happy on prepay keep an eye on Adverts.ie for a 16GB iPhone 4 for about €400 to €450.

While the initial cost of the handset is more you will save yourself in the long run.

in fact I'd go the other way and say for about €150 extra or so you'll have about 18 months of data downloading and not having to worry about your limit..

    You can get the iphone 4 32gb for €309 off 3, plus €40 x18 months = €1029.
For that you get 300 flex units + 2gb data plus a free add like freel calls to landlines etc.

    On prepay let's say €500 for a 16gb model plus €20 a month..= €860
however you're paying more for your calls and your data cap is severly limited...
My thoughts are if you're buying a smartphone what's the point of having to worry about data limits?

What about 3's Best of Both contract? 25euro a month? Is 100 flexi units a month a lot? How do data limits work on best of both?

I got a 16GB iPhone 4 last Monday on O2 prepay. It cost €580, which isn't cheap - but it is prepay, so there's no contract and no monthly bill.

I chose the price plan where you get free texts to any network and a 30c flat rate to all mobiles networks. It costs 99c a day to browse the internet (there's a limit of 50MB, so once you download apps and music on your computer instead you can't really go over). It's definitely worth the money - it's a great phone! Internet device, 16GB iPod, HD recording and all that craic.

Yes but if you only check for email while away from wifi once a day, that's nearly 30 euro at the end of the month for data only, add the 20 ya have to ya have to top up and your paying 50 a month

I'm with o2 aswell and for 60 per month the iPhone 4 cost me 200 and I get 350 mins 150 texts 2GB data and a free extra aswell. I chose free o2 calls

I'd like that plan on billpay with o2 if the data was still 2gb. The 1gb now offered is a problem, can you buy a data add on?

    yeah iirc 1gb is 12.99, 7.5gb is 15/16.99 and 15gb is 19.99
actually one of the options of a free extra is 3gb tethering addon, i'm notsure if that can be only used for tethering or not

On 02 pay I was paying about 30 a month. That's 99 cent a day for net and aslong as you topup 20 euro in one go you get free texts. Either go that option or go for the free texts and calls to 02 and use jelly SMS or eirtext
To text other networks. It depends what you want really, i didn't want a contract as didn't want to be tied down. For example I find myself in new Zealand now and an Irish contract is no use to me!!

iPhone, allowing me to stay in touch while getting cows in from a field in new zealand!!
