Mixed Signals?!

    Yet another one of those does he, doesn't he like me threads!
    Basically there's this guy I've been friends with for ages who I really like. I've over heard him saying he likes me too on a night out and heard the same from one of my friends. Thing is recently I've been making such an effort, always texting him, suggesting we meet up etc and he rarely responds or seems interested? I'm constantly the one to initiate the contact, I get the feeling that if I didn't we'd hardly talk. He's probably more confident than me so I don't think shyness is the issue.
    I've decided I'm acting a bit desperate so I'm just going to leave it but it's annoying me because I think we'd get on really well together and I really do like him and apparently he tells people he likes me too? However you can only put your self out there so much without feeling like a idiot. Any ideas why his actions are contradicting his words so much? Should I just forget about it?

    Any opinions however harsh are appreciated!
