Awaiting STD diagnosis...

I am in shock here, I have been having bladder infections for years, at least I thought they were, but to me, they were and are excruciating pain in the bladder area. Never in all the years have I been tested for STDs for this and was given the usual antibiotics, thrush treatment etc.

This time was different, my GP referred me to a urologist, who couldnt understand the pain I was describing so agreed to put a camera up me, very quickly. He saw no inflammation in the bladder or the neck but found 3 tiny little sores at the very entrance. He said he is pretty certain that they are herpes and that i have been misdiagnosed all along as herpes in the bladder neck is not common. NOw I am still awaiting test results but everything is pointing to this.

The thing is, I am in absolute shock, depression and worry as is my partner. My GP has explained a good bit to me and has said that I have been very very unlucky to have experiencing such pain for 15 years and that there is no stigma to this, more that its what I do next now.

Does anyone have any information? My biggest problem is trying to heal the sores at my bladder neck, I am using sudo cream which the GP said is safe to use. The pain (which would make me want to die,its that bad) only ever went away in the past when I stuffed sudocream up me, pain killers dont work as apparantly, the bugger buries itself into the nerves and flares up at various times.

I realise that my immune system isnt great, hence why I have had so many attacks in the past. I am sick with worry about what all this means and what I have to do now, treatment wise.

just await the diagonosis , theres no point in anybody telling you when your not sure yourself, the specialist is the only person who can give you good accurate information . Have your searched the net to see if there is any info on it ?

An opinion from another doctor would be good too.

I don't know much about the physiology of herpes but with bacterial infections diet can play a major part in the management of the condition. Though only a medical professional could decide if that would work.

Aside from that the only thing you can do is try to improve your immune system. So don't smoke. Be in shape but don't go on fad diets. Don't binge drink or take other recreational drugs to excess.

I wouldn't go with sudacream or anything else unless a specialist recommends it. And I would say go to a specialist in STIs like Dr Freedman in Raneleigh or one that suits your location - they're the ones most likely to have the most experience with this kind of condition

Herpes is a virus consisting of two simplexes or types. type 1 is oral type 2 is genital. As with coldsores I assume a lapse in your immune system would allow it to flare up. so as mentioned above keep your diet healthy and wrap up warm.

Besides that all you can do is wait and seek professional advice.

    Good luck,
    C

OP, I would await the diagnosis to be confirmed first. Incidentally, what kind of test was preformed?

If you do get a confirmed HSV diagnosis, given the number of outbreaks you get it is almost certainly to be HSV-2. You should then talk to your specialist about longer term management of the condition - particularly in respect of your diet but also discuss medication like Famciclovir - an oral medication which is used to reduce the number (and intensity) of future outbreaks.

It is most unusual to get so many recurring outbreaks after so many years.
