I presume this has been asked before, but after buying the box sets I'm just watching season 4 again and wondering about something. The fake plane was found at the bottom of the ocean with all the bodies, so how was this explained after the Oceanic 6 appeared, or was it? Just asking coz it's possible I could have missed this explanation again, I think there's still a lot that goes over my head :D

Widmore was behind it. He admitted it to Faraday in The Variable in season 5. Supposedly he dug up 300 bodies in Thailand and ordered an old 777 for the wreckage. It was a very underwhelming resolution to a mystery that had a lot of potential.

Yes I remember not knowing who to believe between Widdmore & Ben about who was responsible. But wasn't the fake plane with all the bodies on the news, that's where Frank saw it? So how was that explained when the Oceanic 6 appeared. I don't mean explained to us as viewers if you know what I mean!

Oh. The O6 came up with a story which fitted with the faked wreckage in the Sunda Trench. They claimed they escaped from the sinking plane and washed up on an island in the Indian Ocean, lived there on the verge of starvation for a 100 days, until they built a raft and escaped. This was all in the season 4 finale.

Oh right. So not ALL of passenger's fake bodies were found in the wreckage then, is that right? I just thought the news reporter said all the bodies were found.

None of the bodies were recovered. The plane was too deep. They sent down robots to survey the wreckage. I think they just assumed everyone was there and no one could have survived.
