Really unsafe job

Hi! My boyfriend's job is unsafe, to the point of having to have gone to A&E for a brain scan due to an injury caused in work. It's not mean to be an unsafe job, and nothing is mentioned in the contract, but in practice it is an unsafe job. Other people has already left the job cos of that. They tried talking to the boss but doesn't listen to anyone. My boyfriend doesn't really want to quit (he is broke and in the current climate God knows when he will get another job!), but he doesn't want to go back to A&E either... to top it all, he heard that if he quits he will not get the dole for 9 weeks. I am really concern for his safety. Does anyone know if there is any way he could quit on the grounds of safety issues at work and being able to get the dole (even those 9 weeks)? Is there anything else he could do? Thank you in advance!

Contact the health and safety authority

Thanks for your answer k_mac. He contacted them this morning and all they said to him was that if he wanted he could put a complain. He would prefer not having to go through that route, as it will probably involve court and therefore it will be a slow process. Also, it doesn't really sort his problem out. He is on certified sick leave for the week. Sure the health and safety authority won't have this solved by Monday.

He should still do it. Every process has to start somewhere.

    Is your boyfriend injured?

He lost part of the angle of vision of the right eye (he is recovering it slowly), his vision is blurry and he has a headache since the incident. This was on Tuesday morning. He has been in A&E so he could provide medical reports about that.

You and your boyfriend really should speak to a solicitor. Keep everything (receipts for out of pocket expenses etc).

I pm'd you there, a firm that is arguably the best in the biz. Give them a call or even an email. They will talk you through everything! :)
