    Hi guys
As some of you may or may not know im doing an course in Architectural tech and we have fridays off. So I was wondering if one of you guys in the Dublin area could give me a bit of free work experience,in office training or whatever you want to call it as it would be invaluable to my studies. Or can someone give some advice on where to look
    Cheers

Best of luck to you both. It's really a time when most are downsizing, as everyone knows, so keep trying, I do hope you're successful.

As tom says keep trying, as something will break when you least expect it. It took me 9 months to get my first break back in the early 1990's.

I have finished in May 2010 Hons Degree 2.1 Sustainable Architectural Technology so its not like ive just barely made it through. it should have have been a first class, but last year was a tough year for me personnally so im reasonablly happy with result. I am happy with my knowledge up till now. I have a good portfolio of college work so far. ive 15 yrs experience in industrial and residential work both management and on site. ive spent the last 4 years studying a new releated career and its a bit dissapointing to see in end with nothing ! i would have thought an employer ,when you have even offered to do a work experience for free might have even liked to meet to discuss evn if only for their information why ,i could help them ??? but most haveent even replied so far ? i am currently on the passive house design course which i hope will give me more of an edge in standning out from the crowd. ive even at this stage tried finding other jobs of done before office/clerical work, factory work or maybe even sales again. nothing has been sucessful as of yet. but i will keep going to see if i can get into a construction releated job for a while yet, i know others that have given up by now, but maybe thats me, i have the the ambition to see this to the end. if nothing turns up before next year i am considering applying to do the Msc in Project Management in Waterford IT but thats an outside chance at the moment. Probably the biiggest annoyance is the in-laws sniggering behind your back that you found no job after 4 yrs of studying, the same ones that tried to stop me going in the first place, and the same ones that made my life so difficult the best i could manage was a 2.1 hons. that will be something i have to live with for the rest of my time . anyway sorry fo the rant.....just got carried away

what other ideas do you have in finding a placement, i would prefer a job but if this is what i need to do, so be it to get some networking/employment from it

Just have to keep looking, I know its disheartening but tbh you aren't the only one in that situation and realisticly, others have more experience and are still stuck for work.

Thanks for the reply. The only thing to do for me at the moment is find some sort of hobby to keep busy ;). Having no focus would slowly drive anyone mad.... would me anyway ! Now that our minimum wage is going down its going to be worse for a lot of people. I dont know why the workplace is flooded with graduates architects/ technicians when clearly the industry doesent have jobs for them ? Thats not to mention the substandard graduates there is out there !! ( i am speaking for arch tech but i presume other courses are the same) and that brings me to a new thread  of an employers opinion ??
