So I have noticed over the year of shopping in Pennys, that all Pennys (mens pennys anyway) clothing smells after you wash about 2/3 times.
    Has anyone else noticed this?

One of my friends said the same thing about his Penny t-****s too and a female friend of his said that the womens clothes smell after a bit too!!!!
I have stopped shopping there now and spend that little extra on t-shirts now.

    Anyone notice this?

*Sorry if this has been spoken about before, as I am pretty sure it has been!

That happened to me too! (female clothes). I seriously thought it was just the washing detergent or something but it was only happening to certain pieces of clothes (Penneys). How odd!!

I've got quite a few items of clothing from Pennys, some of which I've had for years (jeans, mostly) and I can honestly say I've never experienced a 'smell' from the clothes after washing them.

I get it a little with cheaper clothes in general, mainly ones made out of synthetic fibres.

I think it is only with t-shirts from Pennys really, as I have a few pairs of jeans from Pennys I wear for work and tracky bottoms from Pennys I wear all the time at home and they dont smell.

Other t-shirts from other shops/brands never smell after I wash them, naturally.

I did think it was my washing powder this time last year and have changed what powder I use about 10 times as the smell of sweat is there, its like the fabric in the t-shirt holds onto the smell after washing!

Loads of my clothes are from Penneys and I've never noticed that? What kind of smell, like your own body smell? Maybe try washing them on a higher temperature?

Yeah i was at 30/40/60/90 degrees and each time they smell after drying out.
Just to say its not every pennys t-shirt but most of them.
Its the smell of sweat at the end of a day that seems to attach itself in the fabric and doesnt wash out. Not buying from Pennys anymore!
As i have said already, all my other t-shirts, from h&m, pull&bear, A&F, etc, none of them smell, so it is a pennys thing.

Seems like only a few people here have noticed it though.

one possible reason for this is the dye that they use in the clothes. certain colors of dye will smell after being washed. i guess they dont get the high quality ones

Have had that problem with t-shirts in general (not all of them) but I don't buy Penneys ones so can't say if they are worse. Usually comes out fine on the second wash, except for a sodding Club Monaco one that was well over-priced. Never had it with Penneys cotton pj tops tho.

try rinsing them in cheap vinegar, should kill the bacteria.

I think you could be right. I'm a little (very:rolleyes:) suprised not as many people have said 'yes I agree pennys = smellys'

Thanks for the tip there! but to be honest, i'm not going to do that with cheap pennys T's. I'll just buy new t-shirts instead from somewhere else, but good to know!!!!

i find the cheap dunnes ones start smelling after awhile as well

I've discussed this with friends since reading this, and I'm convinced it's because cheap fabrics holds odours more. I found this but haven't tried it

maybe this is why? Thought I'd share anyway

    Thanks for the link!

Just goes to show, Pennys really does use the cheapest of the cheap fabric, even though I knew this already lol.

Wow I never had this problem and I own lots of clothes from there!

Weirdly, my brother was just telling me that his tshirts from Dunnes end up smelling really bad after a couple of washes! So it seems that Dunnes clothes do it too, must definitely be the cheapo material

I havent shopped in Dunnes in years now but i would guess it would be the same. I tried that soak in Baking soda thing with two smelly pennys tshirts and it seems to have removed the smells so its worth a shot to save a few pence haha

Thanks again for that link Shmatter.
