    Hi folks

I'll be on this train next week, and I'm just wondering what food service will be available. Will I be able to get a hot breakfast, or is it just the tea trolley?

The Irish Rail FAQ is not too helpful.

    Thanks

There's a new Superquinn opened opposite Heuston, you'll be able to get nice rolls there before you depart.

As per the timetable here - just a trolley service.

Full meal services are available on the following trains on Mondays to Fridays only:

    Dublin/Cork: 0700, 1200, 1300, 1600, 1700, 1800
    Cork/Dublin: 0615, 0730, 1330, 1630, 1730

    Dublin/Tralee: 1705
    Tralee/Dublin: 0720

    Dublin/Limerick: 1625
    Limerick/Dublin: 0735

    Dublin/Galway: 1630
    Galway/Dublin: 0705

All services on the Dublin/Belfast route (all week) serve meals with the exception of the 2010 Belfast/Dublin.

    Thanks KC61

I think I'll need something more than the trolley to systain me for 3.5 hours. I'm not going to Superquinn though - I'll get something in the bar at the station.

Two of the Westport trains are split at Athlone so there isn't a dining car on them what with them being 3 car sets. Some of the Sligo trains are 3 car sets as well plus the 29000 sets that pop up don't have a diner on board.

It's people like you that get CIE a bad name. What are you complaining for - the train has wheels doesn't it? :D

Yes, catering on the Northwestern services is something of a joke. There is never anything but a trolley on the Sligo line for starters, even though some trains are run by 6 coach sets with 1st plus catering carriages.

Speaking of which, if a train runs with a 1st+ Catering carriage and it doesn't say First Class on the timetable, you can sit in the "Premier" seats.

I wouldn't bother though because they're also a joke. I certainly would never pay for a "Premier" seat on the Intercity railcars under any circumstances.

"Full meal" means what? Is anything cooked on board any more, or is it all just reheated?

Other than the fry - reheated.
