netopia modem problem

    hello
    problem with my wireless modem
    have wireless and dsl green lights bot the internet connection is red
    have disconnected phone line and power but when i turn it back on it
    the red light returns
    working perfect for the past two years
    fixable or throw in the bin?

    It sounds like a problem with your broadband provider if the DSL light is green and you've no Internet. Check with a neighbour that has the same setup or give your provider a call if you dare.

    next door neighbours connection is fine

    If you log in to the router (if standard config type 192.168.1.254 in to your browsers address bar)

    Click Troubleshoot->Diagnostics->Run full diagnostics

    That should tell you the state of the various layers of your connection.
    From experience, if your DSL light is green and your internet light is red there is a good chance the PPPoE layer is down. If this is the case ring your isp and you'll be armed with a bit of info that may help the troubleshooting process.

    Who is your Broadband provider?

    reset the modem. Hold the pin in the reset hole in the back of the modem for 5 seconds till the power light goes red then take it out. The modem will go back to default settings so if you have made any changes to your wep key you will loose them. This often helps with those authetenitation issues.

    got onto tech support in vodafone
    got into the main screen for the modem with all my info
    they changed my user name to a vodafone one (previous was still a bt one)
    and gave me new passwords and
    bingo its all working again
    i have to applaud the guy i was talking to very helpful and guided me thru every step
    thanks for all the replys,advice and help guys
