It seems that subaru have to alternate between nice looking cars and absolutely fugly ones each generation.

The one above reminds me of the prodrive p2 concept from a few years back.

Could do in the production version (or all but the top-end ones). And they're surely reaching a point of being passe. Makes more sense on a Subaru than an S-class though. But lets wait and see...

Finances permitting a 2.0D version of this with maybe a few more bhp squeezed out and AWD would be VERY high on the list for my next car. It does remind me of that Colin McRae special.

Basically, if Subaru produce even a half-presentable car that suits my needs and I'll strongly consider it....

As per a certain other forum's discussion, that looks pants. Its like an Avensis crossed with a Mondeo. Yes its different but so so much more bland than the older gen while gaining nothing.

This Scooby, while not even being new, has a few mods (mainly removing crappy bling that Subaru tack on everything) and looks distintive and mean, not rep mobile like the "new" one:
