Trinity Student Card

Shtory, so on my TCD student card I've got an extended yellow bar which I've noticed is longer than on other people cards. Just wondering what the reason is for this?
Someone told me it's because I'm 17, if that's the case, do I need to get a new student card after I turn 18? Cheers in advance.

Yes it's because you're under 18, I don't know if you have to get a new one but I guess you could ?

Go to student records once you are 18 and they will issue a new card without any fuss

The yellow strip is to facilitate college staff in particularly those in the Pav

If ya want, go get a new one, makes no difference at all.

Theyve never asked me or my friends for college id in the pav, normal id always did, around freshers week and that!

Yeah but the point being you could have used your college ID. Since it doesn't have a date of birth on it, the yellow strip would show barstaff if an underager had tried to use their card. Not that they'd ever try, I'm sure. ;)

Thanks everyone. 18 in a few days so no worries.

On a related note, any reason in particular why they don't put DOB on the card like other colleges? Just seems kind of odd.

The student card is not designed to be used as a tool for getting into pubs and clubs, its primary roles are to allow you swipe access to relevant buildings throughout the year and to be used as a form of identity for college exams.

Why would the college need to know your DOB? The yellow stripe system works perfectly well if Pav staff have doubts about you.

I think in DCU they only put your date of birth on the card if you're underage.

It would be nice if they put the DOB on.

Doyles accept it as ID aswell.

Because of whatever order the ink is printed it, it used to be possible to "remove" the yellow bar using a normal pencil eraser :P

Regarding having a DOB on it - Trinity don't want bars (who lose their licence for selling to underagers) coming up their ass looking for compensation because of a mistaken DOB on the card they issued.
