How to tell my doctor I've got a second opinion

    Hi,
I was getting treated by a doctor up to a few months ago when I had complications in another area of health so had to hold off treatment.

In the meantime I've got a second opinion on my original diagnosis, the second opinion has confirmed the original diagnosis.

I would prefer to resume treatment with my second doctor due to having a better relationship developed with him from the start due to getting another issue resolved.

I now need to let the first doctor know about this second opinion and also explain to him that I would like to resume treatment with the other. I have no idea how to do this though; he is a nice person.

    Any help appreciated, thanks.

Are both these doctors in the same practice? Is there a real need to tell the first doctor or do you feel you should do it out of courtesy? At the end of the day, it's your health (and your money, so you should go to whichever doctor you feel comfortable with. I'm sure your original doctor won't take it personally. Hope it works out for you!

Edit: Once you've told the second doctor you want to continue treatment with them, they could get in touch with your original doctor for your medical records etc. and explain that they will be continuing your treatment. Which would take the responsiblity off you.

The doctor is a professional and really will not care where you go so long as your happy and getting treated properly.
