Just wondering, have used Drinkstore.ie a few times and its an excellent service. But has anyone used crackedkettle.com or bierkoenig (not sure of spelling) at all? They seem a bit dearer for the regular stuff but do have some interesting stuff I've not seen elsewhere. Any feedback?

Never used them online. Going in person is much more fun :D

Remember that beer ordered from abroad is liable for duty and your parcel could be stopped by Customs.

Only if its from outside the EU surely? Customs exempt within EU unless its very large quantity.
ive bought cases of wine and beer from germany, italy, france. never a problem.

btw i sometimes use http://www.mein-biershop.de , who are quite good. still decent value even though delivery is more pricey than the beer

Nope. Customs-exempt only if you're transporting it yourself and it's for personal use; if you're getting it shipped, duty is payable. Here are the rules.

Whether any individual parcel is stopped or not is a different matter, of course.

    Its on perfumes too

    http://www.revenue.ie/en/customs/leaflets/pn1179.html
    3. Consignments of Negligible Value

Consignments not exceeding an intrinsic value of €150 may be imported without payment of Customs Duty, while consignments not exceeding a total value of €22 may be imported without payment of VAT. (Intrinsic value is the value of the goods alone, and does not include insurance and freight.) However, it should be noted in particular that there is no relief (from Customs Duty, VAT or Excise duty) under this negligible value provision for importations of tobacco, tobacco products, alcohol products, perfumes or toilet waters irrespective of their value.
If I am reading that right it would/could be VAT on top of the duty too.

I have heard of others getting beer from germany with no problem, but if everybody starts at it they would clamp down -in the consumers forum it seems one popular perfume shop might be being targeted at the moment.
