If they have someone with a valid NUIG ID with them, they can sign them in and vouch for them afaik.

You can 'sign' someone in, although when I did it it consisted of the bouncer holding onto both our passports, which I assume is illegal but when do you expect bouncers to pay heed to that...

Never seen the appeal of the college bar anyway. It's just a restaurant that serves alcohol.

Doesn't have to be a passport, can be any ID.

Dunno about the bouncers and signing someone in to be honest....but I went in with a friend of mine (who is a student there) and there was no problem at all!:)

What in God's name gave you that idea?

The state of the place. The layout, the furniture. It's nothing like a traditional pub and doesn't look like one of those modern yuppie bars either. It's just ****. No character about the place whatsoever, just a bunch of yabbering students and a load of TVs that can only show 2 different channels (basically Man Utd and Liverpool games).

hmm, sounds like the majority of pubs in the entire country. Must be exhausting being this angry over issues this small!

Replace the word students with people and bam, you've described a traditional pub.

Not really. Students generally talk a lot more balls than most people, and as for the second point, it depends on the pub. I'm just bitter because on the one occasion I actually went there to watch a game, they changed it over to another match at half-time because we were losing and the result was a 'foregone conclusion', just so some 2-bob Yanited fans could watch their game and clap quietly when they scored.

Couple of friend of mine had to do this. After their pint they came out and the that bouncer was gone. Asked the other bouncer if their IDs were passed on - he said the bounced got called in to work in Cuba and still had their IDs... go in to Cuba to collect them!!! Then the bouncer at Cuba wouldn't listen to them for a bit "Have you ID lads? No ID then you're not getting in..." before coping that he had them.

Probably getting paid by the college bar when working in Cuba too!

That's hilarious! Don't all bouncers have to have ID themselves now? You know, the arm bands with their IDs in it? You should have asked for his number and reported him for it. I'd be very very skeptical about bouncers having authority (or legality) to hold onto your IDs - passports in particular. If in doubt, give the Guards a call and ask them if it's legal.

The number of times a person has successfully brought a doorman to court or whatever must be minuscule. Especially if you're a student

Student + out at nightime = Automatically blind drunk and wrong

Doormen also follow this 'rule' - try talking your way back into a club to get your jacket or try reporting something lost, you'll just be talked down and bustled out the door. It's also pretty funny going into town when you're sober - we've done it a few times just going to places like Charcoal Grill for munchies and you get the bouncers there treating you like some drunk moron, pushing you and telling you to stand in every time you stray an inch away from the counter.

You don't go for the doorman, you go for the place he works.

Exactly. That's why I say get the bouncer's ID number and call the Guards about it. I'd be very dubious about handing over passports, tbh...

The same security company do both the College Bar and Cuba. They were probably short a staff member at Cuba and moved one over.

It appears to be a three day event with a party every evening for the rest of the week.

Oh right, I was just going off this group and I'm bitter because all my exams got crammed into the last 2 days of the timetable so I can't go to Damien Dempsey tonight.

I see the college bar charge 50c now for a miwadi + water. Used to be free.

I know it's only 50c but a pet hate of mine, serious markup on that.

Well, in all honesty, they were about 2-3 years behind the trend of everyone doing that. I remember when it used to be free everywhere..

I think you'll find that the reason they do that is because if they didn't charge for it then the 200-300 requests for glasses of water at dinnertime everyday becomes 200-300 glasses of miwadi. Apparently they used to go through a couple of cases of the stuff a day.

If I get charged for Miwadi when paying for food in the place, i'll suck up and pay it.

However, i'll absorb this cost by sneaking in vodka :pac:
