Where I work we end up imaging machines every day. They are various models of Dell laptops. They are running windows 7 and have the OS on a C: paritition and data files on D:. We want to image C: and leave D: intact.

We want to do this over the network prefereably with PXE but boot USB will do. Have started to look at solutions, FOG, Clonezilla, Ghost Solution Suite, WDS.

Ideally we want the process to be able to rename and join the domain automatically.

Making a bit of progess but wondering if anyone has this going sweetly would be willing to advise. We would even be willing to pay for advice on a decent set up.

Works really well with Windows 7 deployments

In a small environment Clonezilla is brilliant. For an enterprise solution, you should be looking into System Center Configuration Manager.

You could also use Microsoft Deployment Tools.
It uses the same technology as ConfigMgr but is lighter and free but not as quite automated.

ConfigMgr is great in an enterprise because you can do 'zero-touch' deployments, i.e. just boot into PXE and let it run.
With MDT you do 'lite-touch' deployments which means you need to supply some info during setup (a bit like when you start up an OEM build), but the OS and apps are installed without input.

You can start off with MDT for a while, if you need to upgrade you can integrate it with ConfigMgr. Since it's based on the same technology you can use the same images and familiar processes and get the benefit of zero-touch deployment.
