OP - I'd be inclined to learn (or have someone show you) how to use one. They all work on the same principle, if you can use one you can use them all.

Topaz Headford Rd has one where you first manually enter the pressure into the box, then you take the hose and just hold it against the valve until box beeps three times. Pretty foolproof.
If you don't know what pressure your car should take, post here or just go for 30 all round.

... but do now as have checked manual ...
Depending on the car you drive, there'll be a label inside the fuel filler flap or on the driver's door pillar with the info you need.

Some good info here, especially about only checking them cold.

Theres an awful lot of garages/petrol stations with broken air hoses and pressure gauges. So I have to assume that the majority of people simply don't check their tyres at all, and leave it to the service.

I can use the ones where there is a little box on the hose showing the pressure, and you just pump a little if you want to inflate. Simple enough.
But there is one in kilcock for example with no box, no pump, I have no effing idea how it works  I poked some of the machine buttons but couldn't figure it out!

I ordered one of the free ones anyway...

I picked up a small air compressor from lidl that handy for pumping the tyres at home. Has a gauge on it. One of the VW's in the family comes with something similar. You'd need it these days since its getting harder to find a working one in a garage.

I saw a digital one in tesco for just under 6 euro
