Clueless

There was a time when I did the research and knew what to look for but a mortgage, recession kids and DIY and meant no more time so i am now out of date and officially clueless.

I currently have SONY 50" LCD rear projection unit (not HD) that has served me well for the last 6 + years. However a 3 year old equipped with permanent markers and sharpies means that it is due a replacement.

As this TV will never be used without a box of some kind (currently sky) so I dont need a built in tuner.

I am now used to the real-estate associated with a 50" and don't want to give it up unless I have to.

The TV is used for standard TV (soaps, apprentice etc for the missus, cartoons for the kids and some Chuck, stargate, top Gear etc for me) and lots of movies.

No sport, (no rugby, soccer, GAA, golf tennis etc perhaps the odd F1 race or touring car but that's it)

Biggest issue with the old rear projection TV was viewing angle and issues light reflection.

I am neither and audiophile nor looking for the ultimate picture.

I was a decent size, decent quality TV with a decent picture and decent sound that will last me 5 to 8 years. At a very reasonable price.

No particular preference for plasma, LCD or LED.

My only request is that I can plug in my old non HD accessories so some legacy inputs would be great.

    Any recommendations ?

How much is the budget? You can get some great TV`s at all manner of prices - I have a panasonic P50G20 but it`s an expensive beast....

Budget is fairly flexible but I would like to keep it around €800 if possible (I can go up a bit).

The G20 looks a lovely screen but as you say it is expensive and to be honest that screen quality would be wasted in our house. As I said we are not looking for ultimate picture quality just an honest decent screen where we can watch TV and movies without huge glare or distractions such as flicker etc.

What ever we choose is going to be a big step up from our current SD Sony LCD rear projection unit.

Cool - i`ll have a look and see if there is anything in that price range I can recommend, but might be a good idea to ask the lads in Richer sounds (they have their own section on boards and give discounts to boardies) or if you see a TV you like, try seamus Watters up north. I bought my G20 off SW and cannot recommend them enough - great service.....
