Howdy everyone, this is my first post on this. Im currently in my 1st year of Science in TCD. I've heard from a few people that sometimes if somebody does extremely well in their first year exams in Science they can be allowed to transfer into medicine. I was just wondering if anybody had heard of this happening?

Oh no Im not holding onto hope for it :P Im still going to do the HPAT again and all of that, its just I had heard this story from some people and wanted to get some opinions on it

Errrr... wouldn't hold on too much hope with that.

There's people in my class who did a year of Science, but they got into med by taking the HPAT and reapplying through the CAO.

If you do well in Science, and maybe get schols if you're super-fantastic-amazing you might find it easy enough to get into med as a mature student or be able to do grad-entry med.

The only case where I've ever heard of this happening was in UCD in Biomedical Health and Life Sciences and I'm lead to believe that while possible, such a transfer is very rare indeed.

Anyway, so to answer your question no you cannot switch. As bythewoods says if you want to persue graduate entry medicine after your undergrad degree you need to do well(2.1+) and take the GAMSAT exams.
