Organising a School Rugby Trip

    Hi all

We have started a new rugby team in the school and would like to bring in the traditional end-of-year trip away.

Has anybody any suggestions how I could go about beginning to arrange this, in terms of making contacts with other schools?

The aim would be to turn this into an annual event, perhaps with a return fixture here too. It is an u18 (senior team), in a school that would not have been traditionally known for rugby.

    Many thanks

If it's a school team, your school should be organising the trip.

I can't imagine any school with a rugby tradition or otherwise being in agreement with the team organising a trip independently. So many implications in terms of insurance, supervision etc. I doubt any other school would be inclined to host a touring side travelling without sanction and supervision.

I have discussed with the Deputy Principal and it has been given the go-ahead. The other teacher and myself will do the ground work with regards to booking flights, etc.

I am just unsure how to go about making contacts/links with other schools.....Has anybody any experience of this or any suggestions?

Start with the easy question, where would you like to go?

Consider what budget you're dealing with, duration of trip and making sure you have a viable team.

I organise tours for my club around Ireland and Europe and they are the first questions I put to myself. Sometimes the destination is a by-product of the process.

You could be better off contacting games masters in other rugby schools and getting advice off them on previous tours they have undertaken etc. I presume most likely you are looking at heading to the UK for a weekend with a match included.

Other schools here in Ireland may be able to put you in contact with schools abroad they have dealt with.

    Hi Fidge 9,

Someone told me about your post so I thought I would touch base with you. We do all of that work for you so you dont have to worry about all of the hard work involved and also it is best to be covered insurance wise and we cannot stress to deal with a bonded operator. Why not contact us www.irishrugbytours.com and we can make contact that way. Hope all is well. George
