Looking to buy an FN2000. (Then all I'll need is the Five-Seven, sneaking suit and thermal, NV & Binos headset)
How does it fare in the Irish scrim scene?

I'm not going to do a full in-depth review with photos and gearbox stripping, but I'll give a brief overview and answer any specific questions.

It's a very sturdy-feeling gun, and the ergonomics of it are impressive - smooth and natural to shoulder, and it's pretty compact. Two-stage trigger like an AUG but the selector switch, which is positioned inside the trigger guard like the P90's, can be set to only allow semi-auto. The gun's a little fat and can get tiring to hold over long periods, though. Attaching a sling is not a simple procedure, you'll need to shop around or use your noodle.

There's a good bit of space in the battery-hole for most stuff, I've only ever used an 8.4 mini but it's loose in there. With an M100 spring the rate of fire's a little higher than I'd like, but most BB-hose people will consider that a good thing. Version 6 gearbox with an adjustable spring makes taking it apart easy, and means you won't need to worry about clocking just over the Joule on the day, because a screwdriver and an Allen key and it's tweaked.

You've probably heard by now that most magazines won't fit into it unmodified - the bit atop the mag holding the BB catch spring is too long and knocks against a screw thinger on the gearbox. It's not a big deal to modify the mags though, and if you're brave and handy it's possible to lop off the screw thinger and hold the gearbox together some other way. The mag-well is very deep so curvy mags won't go in - I had to file a chunk off some EMags to get them to fit (but they're absolutely great now that they do).

I don't have the model-specific sight because it doesn't do what I want, so I can't comment on how it is. I never fired it with its stock barrel, so I can't comment on its out-of-the-box performance either.

It's a great gun though and I like it a lot.

I picked one up myself a while back, when Tony got his order in at eirsoft. Overall I am delighted with it. I find it fits my hands perfectly, and out of the box, it seems to out preform most of the other AEGs that appear at my normal skirmish grounds.

I use a 9.6 crane stock battery in mine, it fits perfect, very little wiggle room etc.

I got the model with the inbuilt hunter sight, it's very clear, and very easy to use. It's quite low profile though, so it might not be fantastic to use with massive goggles. Works fine with my Bolle ones though.

Sling-wise, I use an SA80 sling I picked up from an army surplus store. It's not a perfect fit, but it does the job.

The only faults I found with the AEG was 1. that the rubber piece that covers the stock is quite easy to knock off. This can be remedied by either using a strip of insulation tape (Like I do) or investing in a proper F2000 sling (Like I believe evilrobotshane has). And 2. the mag issue. But that's a quick fix, you can mod a mid cap in a couple of minutes with a scalpel or clippers.

Nah, something about the fact that it straps on where there isn't strictly supposed to be sling (the thumb hole) and doesn't seem to strap on where there is supposed to be a sling (the loops at the back) irritates me. I used an SA-80 sling for a while, but due to the same weird sense of aesthetic mores I had to wrap it the whole way around the stock so it was a bit short to adjust much. Recently I improvised a strap that wraps right the way around the stock, goes through both sling loops, and has a D-ring I attach to a Chalker sling, out of a little backpack strap. I'm ludicrously proud of myself.

To keep the butt-plate on, ho ho, I rummaged in my straps-left-over-from-load-carrying-gear bag and found two loops with hook velcro on them. I put them on the sling strap wrapping around the stock (first with the SA-80 sling, now with the Shane F2000 Sling Adaptor) and put a strip of loop velcro tape which came as the backing for a velcro name-tape across the butt-plate joining the two loops. It does the same thing as the equivalent bit on Stealth's sling there, and can be unvelcroed easily to take out the battery and so on.

Man, I want to go shoot someone with that gun (Meredith) right now.

I can attest to Stealths observations, I had just gotten a Magpul Masada the week before he got his F2000 and I was a little jealous of the performance of the F2000. Just wow, out of the box.

Looks like I might be spending a few pound in the near future :D
Need to get my mitts around one first and see if my current mags will fit.

They will with a slight modification. (IE 30 seconds with a scalpel, or 3 seconds with a chainsaw).

Anyone know where to get that sling settup. I take it there are no airsoft versions of it yet, none that I can dig up anyway. So is the only option the real deal FS2000 civilian stock slings?

Stealthirl is using the urban ERT sling.

There's like $50 shipping on that though isn't there?
    Is there a European supplier?

Nope, if I recall correctly, he said his cost about 80 to 100 euro by the time he got it into the country. I'm sure he will let you know more when he comes back online. It's somewhere in the 'photos of your airsoft gear (discussion)' thread.

I saw that and I went and ordered the real deal version on Ebay for $70 including shipping from the US. It was $54 for the sling. I only thought about the customs fee after I bought it.:o

Now the problem for me is deciding what F2000 to go for. I thought both versions had the same rail, but the rail on the "Hunter" version is about an inch shorter and sits about an inch lower down, right on the receiver. Could be a problem using aftermarket irons on that with the "hump", unless one installs a rail riser along the length of the existing rail.

    Decisions, decisions.....

The main reason I went with the hunter variant was because the optics and rail cover are not available after-market. And as you said yourself, with a raiser and some iron sights, the hunter can be pretty much converted into the same thing anyway.

    I was unaware of this.
