There is some ignortant *****of Traffic wardens in limerick. i was parked in a parking place in limerick, then this traffic warden came along and told me move on.Then stood and waited till i moved. the biggest joke is that there was people double parked up further in william street if he bothered walking up that far. I hate those traffic wardens that think they are "Guards". Some of them just stand in the same spot all day. What does any one else think?

I do find them objectionable but necessary evil, however why did they tell you to move if you were parked in a parking space? Once you have a valid parking disc clearly displayed, you are free to sit in the car all you like.
Or did you not have a disc?

There is an traffic warden in Abbeyfeale who thinks he is a guard and put the hand in the air to signal me to let him cross the road. I ignored him and drove on.

+1 hassling the poor couriers who are double parked because the loading bays are full of cars. Amazing some business' in Limerick actually think that loading bays outside their doors are their private spaces.

People usually use it in the context of being ignorant of common decency or manners.

However, the OP was ignorant of the spelling of "ignorant" :P A change of mind from important?

I suppose he was in the wrong, sounds like you were only stopping to pick up someone and aside from taking up a space that someone with a disc could be using, you were doing no wrong.
Still, it's nothing to get worked up over.

not when the traffic warden shouts move with out even pls or u cant park here. no where else to park with all the roadworks. there was cars doubled parked further up.he did nothing about them. I was pick up a old family member who cant walk far.Not putting up with "Wannabe Guards " like him

You don't need one when you're not leaving the car.

Fair enough OP, I can understand your frustration if he wouldn't even listen to reason, still, aside from filing a complaint against him there's not much you can do about it.

Agreed, most loading bays in Limerick are used by private cars, they should be clamped or towed away immediately

Well that's fair enough - you never said you had paid for parking in your post. In that case, sound's like he was in the wrong but wasn't prepared to admit it; it hate that

So you were legitimately parked but still moved when he told you too.

Did you not say to him, i have a tag?

Or what part are you leaving out of this story?

Loading bay or disabled parking spot?

People parked in loading bays or disabled parking spaces when they could easily use one of the many disabled parking spaces drives me nuts. Couriers and delivery vans have to park near their destination. Most car drivers can park and walk.
It's this f*ck you attitude to other people which has us where we are as a people.

Me too. Only the other day i went to park in a parent and child space, yet a parent parked in the spot with her child! And there was loads of parent and child spaces just down the road!

i was parked outside carews leather shop. i was reading the paper in the car.The entrance to foxes bow is just in front of me.There.

what are the last 2 posts on about. A parent & child complaining that another parent and child parked there. the same thing with the disabled post. did i pick it up wrong

If the entrance to Foxes Bow was within a few metres you were in a Loading Bay, but if you were directly outside Carew's you were in 1 hour parking, neither are that close to each other..so you'll have to be a bit clearer.

    http://maps.google.ie/maps?q=foxes+bow&ie=UTF8&hl=en&hq=&hnear=Foxes+Bow,+Limerick,+County+Limerick&ll=52.663061,-8.624699&spn=0.001005,0.002411&t=h&z=19&layer=c&cbll=52.663014,-8.624573&panoid=f0NMK_xGCiTtkNMEmZbe7w&cbp=12,209.3,,0,6.2

The first post had a typo and the second was a sarcastic reply to the typo.

so you were parked on double yellow lines.

what are you giving out about so?!!? The guys job is to stop people from parking in illegal spots, you were parked in an illegal spot. He told you to move on, gave you the option. He could have just ticketed you there and then, but no, he saved you money. Its not his fault if you think the lines are in the wrong place, raise it with the council, but jesus christ the guy gets enough stick from people day in day out, with complaints like this. He's only doing his job.

Just to add to this, you could also have gotten a ticket from the Gardai for parking within 5m of a corner.....This is also illegal as it blocks other motorists clear view of whats around said corner.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,473 ✭✭✭JamesBond2010

YOU did not read the Thread Properly did u. I was talking about how Ignornant the Traffic warden was. Foxes is Usually Closed it is like cruises Street with Barriers. It is a one way system. there was loads of Cars parked in the loading Bay he did nothing About them. there was cars Double parked further up as well as nothing. So u should Read before u Speak!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,473 ✭✭✭JamesBond2010

Foinse Do the taxis know That do they? they are always parkked on the Corners even on the pedestrian lines at the Traffic lights. Anyway the Guards better things to be doing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 931 ✭✭✭Xennon

Most of them are fine....but there is one in particular that has the manners and demeanor that should not be put on the front line of any law enforcement organisation.

On many occasions this same guy has been seen ticketing the library van while its parked in the area in front of the Granary. Brilliant, one government body fining another. I wonder if hes persistently getting fined for returning his books late and this is an infinite loop that has been going on since the beginning of time.

Someone should tell him to shave and bath every now and then though.

So your basis of "ignorant traffic wardens" is that they paid attention to your illegal parking rather than everyone elses illegal parking?

I'm sorry but the excuse "But everyone else was doing it" didnt fly back in school and as an adult it has even less weight.
You did something wrong and were cautioned, get over it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,473 ✭✭✭JamesBond2010

no i talking about how ignorant how when he said it to me he grunted & gestured to me to move. What that supposed to mean. eg ur a woman by ignorant i mean if u were behind me walking out of a shop & i closed the door in ur Face. I am being ignorant there by closing it in ur face". IF he was Politeto me i would have no problem. besides grunting and gesturing.

i should have said he was "rude " instead of "Ignorant"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,267 ✭✭✭concussion

So you were in fact illegally parked - I've no sympathy for you. The warden's job is to impose fines, being nice not. How can you complain about him being rude when you were being so inconsiderate to others? There's a reason you can't park in certain places, it's to facilitate traffic flow, access and visibility.

And yet many of the official parking spaces around the city centre are less than that 5m from a corner. For some reason I thought the limit was 10 metres from any junction although I may be mixing that up with the UK limit.

The rules of the road may say that parking within a set distance of a corner is illegal, but the City council/planners have no problem putting parking spaces less than the legal distance from corners and where a parked car using the space would block the view of motorists.

I thought u should know about manners. Not wonder the Traffic wardens were being assaulted if they were being rude like this. if i did what the Traffic warden did to me to a guard i would be arrested. How was i being inconsiderate to others was i blocking anyones way NO The Barriers were up in Foxes Bow so u could not drive up there. How about all the road works in limerick.Where is the Traffic flow there.

Aren't those barriers retractable? If there was an emergency, they would be lowered, and then you would be blocking it.

As we approach Christmas the usual politicians will be asking the traffic wardens to give people a break and not ticket them for parking on the street while they nip into a shop 'for a minute'. If the big bad traffic wardens allowed this to happen we would have traffic chaos.
There is no shortage of multi-storey parking spaces in the city centre. People can park and walk a few 100 metres at most.
If people did this then traffic would flow freely for everyone. Deliveries could be made without the need to double park.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,267 ✭✭✭concussion

Those barriers are indeed retractable - thery are there to prohibit through traffic but still allow access for delivery and emergency vehicles.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,473 ✭✭✭JamesBond2010

if there was an emergency i would move then no problem what so ever i was not leaving the car. i was just reading the paper waiting. even if a delivery truck wanted to park where i was i would let him. cause the loading bay was full of Cars. i did before when a delivery driver asked me.in another part of town cause loading bay was full of cars. I am just talking mostly About BEING RUDE Or IGNORANT.

everything else just happens to be part of the conversation. And people are able to blow off steam about them as well.

Also aware of this, I'm not sure which supersedes which in this instance. The distance is 5m in Ireland, If you're parked within the defined parking spaces then there is usually no problem but the issue is usually brought to the fore when another parking regulation is violated.
Foinse Do the taxis know That do they? they are always parkked on the Corners even on the pedestrian lines at the Traffic lights. Anyway the Guards better things to be doing.

Yes they are aware that what they are doing is illegal. They have been seen and they are dealt with as it happens, not by Traffic wardens but by Gardai. Their persistence is however mind boggling.

I think that you're pissed off that this man did his job and you caught the brunt of it, the way i see it, you were lucky to get away without a ticket. The background to the incident is just as important as the incident itself, You initially said that you were parked legally and the big bad traffic warden came along was very rude to you and told you to leave, everyone was with you and was giving out about how bad they are. Now it transpires that you were parked illegally and the man was just doing his job. In fact he didn't even do his job he moved you on instead of giving you a ticket which was very nice of him, now you're changing the basis of your argument because the people in the thread have turned against you and you didn't get the warden bashing thread you wanted.

Park legally in future and you won't have a problem.

i was not in front of the bollards the green post box was in front of my car. just so u know. I am just talking about the Attitude of the Warden of the warden BEING RUDE.nothing else i just giving evidence and people then were blowing off steam. He cannot ticket me while i am in the car. u agree with people being rude so do u. If the warden was doing his job then why did he not ticket the cars that were parked in the loading bay behind me & when i went around the block there was a car in the exact same place as me. and none of the cars in the loading bay had been ticketed.

Seeing as you didn't quote me I'm going to presume you're directing this at me. I don't condone anyone being rude. However I find it very strange that you have changed your story so much in the space of 3 pages. You went from being parked legally with a park magic disc on your windscreen, To being parked on double yellow lines. What other people did is irrelevant. We're discussing your experience here.

Seeing as you chose to tell a bare faced lie in post 1 and then continue with it for a number of posts until you were found out. I find it very hard to believe anything else you would say about this matter. Including your description of how the traffic warden was "ignorant" (rude) towards you.

    Don't knock quotes....they have a use
