Hopefully someone could help me here.
Timing belt went in my 02 Clio the other day.
Wondering if anyone knows if any other year range of a clio would suit if i was to change the engine or does anyone else know of a cheaper alternative to fix.
I was also thinking of just selling the car as is. What price could i expect to get for it.
Thanks in advance for your help on this.

Stick it on www.adverts.ie with lots of pics to see what someone offers for it.
But without timing belt and what issues that snapping may have caused to the engine I don't think you can shift it.
A breaker will give you about 50 for it but you'll get more selling parts/seats/lights if you can.

If you want to fix it, then it would depend on the engine type. Assuming its the 16v engine, then you can easily swap it out for an engine from mid 01 through to the campus that was on sale until last year. If its the 8v engine, then its the same age range but older engines can be included, so you are looking at back to 1998 for the 8v. Engines from the Clio 3 may not suit as I think the mounts are different. I am not sure how much an engine would cost but check with a scrapyard. Theres a very good one in Kilcock.

    Hi Coco

I just wanted to ask what mileage was your Clio at when the belt went, because my 01 Clio's mileage is at 59900 at the moment and i've been told that the belt should have been changed at 50000 - 55000 but the manual says 72000. Also i've been quoted over €400 to get it done and at this time of the year it's a hassle i could do without. I'm hoping i'll get into the new year with it.

    Well Jenna,
it went at just over 81,000.
Someone mentioned to me that around 80 would be ok to do it if you looked after the car and didn't drive the ****e out of it.
I was planning on getting it done after christmas.

    Hey Jenna,

The manual is right, the belts need to be changed every 72000 miles or 5 years, whichever is sooner. So if the belts have not been done since the car was sold, then its really overdue. Its not always the mileage that kills a belt, as rubber will perish and disintegrate over time. €400 is a reasonably good price as its a time consuming job. For instance, on the Audi A3 I used to have it took over 3 hours, but thats a more difficult car to work on. Renault charge between 500 and 700 euro to change a timing belt. Id recommend getting the work done as soon as possible. In the meantime, have a look at the timing belt itself if you can. It should be on the drivers side of the engine. If it looks damaged or worn in any way, please try not to drive it. Hope this all helps.

    Andrew
