My mate has an xbox and has it connected to his computer monitor in his room (a dell flatscreen) via a VGA cable. I know these cables (well some) are produced with 360's in mind, is there a ps3 equivalent?

Reallllllllllly dont have enough cash for a tv.... cheers :D

it depends on what inputs your PC monitor has. Like the PS3 comes with a composite cable that u could use or adapt that into a scart. Haven't heard anything about a VGA cable tho i'll let u know if i do

What's he doing about sound, there is a digital optical port that can be used.

I don't think any of these work with the PS3 because of the stupid HDCP (copy protection scheme) on the HDMI port. I used a DVI adapter to connect to my old DELL 2405FPW and could get no signal since this monitor does not support HDCP. New monitors don't have this issue but then again, most new monitors now have an HDMI port anyway.

You can also get a component adapter if your monitor has component connections (much better than the SD quality of composite):

but l have one and it works a treat no issues on 3 different monitors just vga input.

I'm with j-blk on this one . Component is the way to go because it doesn't support that hdcp and this u can use it with your moniter . It supports high definition too although it's analogue.

    j-blk and LakesKeane are wrong...

I use a bog standard hdmi to dvi cable on my ps3 and it works just fine... and I use the component cable for the sound.... theres an option to switch sound output in the settings menu....

DVI does indeed support HDCP, it's VGA that doesn't.

I bought this monitor over the weekend:
    http://www.pixmania.ie/ie/uk/2701048/art/lg/w2361v-pf-23-tft-widescre.html

Its cheap and the picture quality is absolutely stunning!!
Connected my PS3 easily with the HDMI cable and also has a headphone jack so I can connect my headphones to it (although it doesn't have a volume control, but the volume you get through the headphones is fairly ideal!) and save on buying expensive headphones to connect to the PS3.

I was under the impression the OP already had a moniter and that it was old. Thus not being HDCP compliant. ...

From their post it seems to me they just want to buy a cable?

If you want to get sound as well, you need to follow this guide:

I did the above and it worked for me. Been using my Samsung 22inch monitor for 2 years now, it was much cheaper than a TV :)

Right so just to offer some closure, I have connected my PS3 to the dell monitor via a HD-DVI adapater, which i purchased in Peats's. Picture quality was phenomenal but the screen quickly told me its max resolution was inferior to 1080p so i had to change my resolution to 720p. Works like a charge now, have the laptop hooked up as well! Working on the sound now via a red/white adapter with male to f/f adapter. Thanks for all the help guys!:D

Am using Dagon's video as reference for sound, credit where credit is due.
