Paranoid about appearance

I am a guy in his early twenties and I have a problem. Well, I think I have a problem!

Recently I have been tagged in a lot of facebook photos for a night out and I wanted to change my profile picture to one of these recent photos of me. The problem is that every photo of me I think looks terrible, and for one reason in particular.

I think I may be slightly cross eyed. Years ago in school I first thought I may be cross eyed when I got in an arguement with a guy in school and we were staring at each other face to face throwing comments back and forth when he says "at least I'm not cross eyed".

Ever since then I've been very conscientious of photos. No one has ever mentioned my eyes since that day but for some reason the idea stuck and I cant help but think about it. I've asked my parents before but of course they are going to say there isn't anything wrong...

I'm not seeking medical advice or anything but is there a way of telling if your eyes are deviating so to speak or could it be that I'm getting worked up over nothing?

Everyone goes crossed eyed when focusing on something close to our eyes. Maybe when when you were head to head with that chap in school it was the only thing he could think of saying in the heat if the argument.

There is no real way of checking this yourself because if you look directly at yourself and stare directly at one eye in the mirror it will deviate. If you want a definitive answer a trip to the Optician is the only way to go. You do not even have to go along with that as your question, simply pretend you want... for example.... a cert for obtaining a provisional driving license for which they do a free Eye Test on your Public Health Insurance. Just ask at the end of the test if they noticed any deviation.

Worth remembering is that most people get some deviation when tired, drunk or their eyes are under any kind of strain.

Also worth remembering is that there are very few people alive who are not paranoid about their appearance in one way or another. If a small barely noticable deviation in one eye is the worst you have to worry about, then you are ahead of the pack.
