New cars are likely to go up as the government will tax us all out of the country in the December and June budgets. Second hand cars with the exception of those around 2007, 2008, 2009 are likely to go down as there will be a shortage of quality used cars in these years where sales of new cars collapsed.

I don't think second hand cars will go much lower. There are some great deals to be had in the last year or so and I've spoken to a few people in the trade that say good used cars are selling and are hard enough to come by because of the dramatic decrease in new sales and as a consequence fewer trade ins.

If your getting a good deal and happy with the car I'd buy. There definitely won't be anything dramatic happen in the near future.

...if it's older car's you're looking at (pre-08), I don't see how the budget will affect it one way or the other, tbh......

post 08's I'd say, will go up, or at least, hold. There is a big shortage of used cheap-tax cars due to the collapse of sales of them in 07 & 08. The shortage will only get worse - what's out there is out there - the pool is getting smaller, not bigger.

Of course, I could be completely wrong ! :)

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

    In a very general sense:

Large engine petrol cars will become even less popular.
Average Focus Corolla Golf Yaris Polo under 10k will still be as popular or more popular due to people not wanting or be able to get loans or whatever for anything more expensive.
I wouldn't like to be selling anything over 20k secondhand!

Diesel will convert all remaining infidels.

Many perfectly good 98/99/00 japanese cars will be scrapped by Bill Cullens crack team of apprentices. Many useless POS's that should have gone to the scrapper will remain
