What is the Junior Cert REALLY like?

I'm looking for answers about the Junior Cert, HONEST ones, since some of my teachers just say something like "Give it your best go," while some say, "Study as much as you can, if you want good marks on it," most of my teachers are in their 40-60s, some are in the their late 20s.

So did the JC get easier or harder throughout the years and how was it for the TYs/5th years who did it last year? The only thing I'm truly worried about is Tech Graph, since my teacher isn't great :( I sprained my hand, so I couldn't draw, and use a set square at the same time. I dunno if it was anything important though :/

I'm now a leaving cert but in junior cert I did very little study. Granted I did my homework and all but what little study I did happened in May/June. I would consider my self intelligent and clever but I was just too lazy to study. I didn't have any expected grades except I thought I would get a A in Maths, a C in English and that I would fail Irish. The mocks (for me anyway) were not realistic in what I would get, did much better in the real thing (with not much extra work).

Anyway in the end I got 4 As in Maths, English*, CSPE* and Geography and then 7 Bs in French, Irish, Business, Science, Art, History and Religion. (all higher level).

*English = My teacher was a disaster. We learned one poem and most of her 2 years (2nd and 3rd) year teaching us was spent shouting and throwing things. (We were by no means a bad class and were known for being well behaved). She left 3 weeks before the actual Junior Cert and our vice-principal (an English teacher) taught us for 2 of them. She is the sole reason I got an A (likewise with some others in my class).
*CSPE = My teacher for this was my English teacher. We spent 3 years doing CSPE comprehensions. We never learned about the political system and all (we maybe spent 4 classes at most on it). It just shows how easy an exam it is!

Have you checked the exam papers?

Have you checked the old exam papers?

J.C. is almost the same as them.

Study the old exam papers and you will do well in J.C.

I had saw the Technical Graphics exam paper for 2006, and 2-3 questions were fair easy, but the others were fairly hard, so I think I'll do OL for that and HL for everything else except Irish :D

Thanks for the replies, I also heard the JC wasn't as important since employers won't be asking for your JC reports, but instead for your Leaving Cert reports.

My sixth class teacher told us that employers would be looking at our primary school report cards, so if anybody can clear that up, it would be well appreciated.

    Thanks guys :D

my storys the exact same as Ciaramb92.
im now in leaving cert, but in 3rd year i was just too lazy to study. i also consider myself fairly intelligent, and previous results in school had reflected that, but in JC i was too lazy to study or do any extra homework, so, i did MOST of what teacher prescribed as homework, and on the evening before each day of JC exams, i did a bit of study, from revision books. about an hours worth. JC was grand, did way better than in the mocks(prick of thing). dont worry about it. do a bit of work and youl be grand, and if the worst goes to worst, sure you can get over the junior cert.

    best of luck

I'm in TY now and I did pretty well in my JC considering I did sh*t all study, now that it's over I really wish I had just got the head down and just studyed like fu*k... Believe me it'll be worth it when you get the results. And I also did Tech Graph and its really hard at honours so I did the pass paper and got an A. And the build up to the exams are always the worst until the week before so dont tell yourself youre going to cram in the last week cause you just stop caring!

I did fcuk all study and I remember everyone in my year hastily copying homework 10 mins before classes and we all did fine. You should take it seriously as it does set you up for the LC but honestly just by showing up to class you'll probably remember enough for C's (and once you get to TY/5th year no one will care what you got)

Do a fair bit of study and you'll get on well. I started studying after my mocks and got 3 A's and 8 B's, all higher. No point killing yourself studying!

I'm aiming for a good few As, lads. But yeah, I was told by a couple of people in a higher year that if I do well on the mocks, I'll do well on the exam. :D

If everyone in your year was copying homework before class, who's were they copying?
