Maybe this has been mentioned before but by adding the programme <SNIP> you can now watch BBCiplayer, ITVplayer, 4OD, Demand Five etc in ireland. This is totally above board and extremely easy to install. It will also allow you to watch catchup tv programs on Youtube.

Its excellent !! Heres more reviews

    <SNIP>

Only UK for now but there is a promise, I believe, to include USA in the near future.

Does it work the other way round? ie Watching RTE in the UK?

why would it work the other way around? if you have a uk ip, you'll still be assigned a uk ip and won't be able to access rte.

Installed this last week and was pleased enough with it, but from the start it seemed there was a high possibility that it was a malware program, or was at the very least compromising the security of my computer.

Every time I opened it an annoying ad opened itself in a new tab, and even when I wasn't using <SNIP>, my computer would occasionally open a little window in the bottom right of my screen near the <SNIP> mini-icon saying something like "Privacy turned off, click here to adjust your security settings"

Then last night I had a big malware scare and ended up just uninstalling it completely . . .

I had downloaded another unrelated freebie program the same evening last week, so I can't 100% condemn <SNIP>, but I don't think I will be re-installing it any time soon.

Yeah. I did the same as teekayd25. Didnt like what it was doing to my browser. Lived without iplayers until now and will continue to do so.

Anyone know of a linux alternative?

As an alternative I would suggest <SNIP>

    See here: <SNIP>

Installed it myself, works fine, allows UK, USA, etc.

Guys we know this kind of stuff is easy to do, but we can't be seen to provide this information on boards.ie.

    From the BBC iPlayer FAQ:
3.2 How you may NOT use BBC iPlayer

3.2.1 If you are outside of the UK

You may not watch or download BBC Content using BBC iPlayer if you are outside of the UK, although you may listen to some (but not all) BBC radio content if you are outside of the UK. The types of BBC radio content that may be available outside of the UK will depend on the BBC's agreements with the persons who own rights in such content.

    From the Demand Five FAQ:
Can I watch video if I am outside the UK?

No, Five is only licensed to make content available to the UK. If our video player doesn’t recognise your IP address as one from within the UK then you won’t be able to watch our programmes and video clips online.

And so on.... we don't want these guys coming down on us for providing this information - that's why it is in the charter as a topic that cannot be discussed.
