Six-One headlines.

On Six-One, the Cork and Limerick tragedies came first in the headlines, followed by the euro crisis, but after the headlines the euro crisis came first. This raises 2 questions:
    Why did this discrepancy arise?
Why does RTÉ think that the euro crisis is more important than the Cork and Limerick tragedies?

Presumably because the Euro crises is a national issue and there were new developments since 5pm. The Cork/Limerick tragedies broke earlier in the day. Unfortunately, that's how news works!

Look how quickly how major disasters worldwide can dominate headlines and then just disappear.

yea i saw it too and i agree, 7 persons dead including four children under the age of 7. should have been the number one story in the news in my opinion, and aswell for the next few days.

    Noticed this too

But....Euro crises is national and international news
You could see the international press corps in Brussels

After this they immediately put stories for Limerick and Cork. And Brian Dobson promised to interrupt the news if they got more information. What more can you ask for?
I'm not trying to sound insensitive but they put the international stories first

    All politics are local.

    Regional news is mainly local.

All national news may be made of local news stories, but is generally issues affecting the country as a whole.

When we are on the international stage then these issues take priority over local news on a National level.

We are very much in the European eye at the moment. And the European stations are most definetly running us at the top of their running order and never run accidents/tragedies that happen in Ireland.

As sad as the stories from Cork and Limerick are, the financial meltdown in this country is more important.

That's understandable in the case of disasters like 9/11 and the tsunami, but the collapse of the economy, unlike that of the Twin Towers, is not fatal.
In any case, the 9 o'clock bulletin put the multiple murder first.
