Gardaí are investigating the circumstance surrounding the deaths of four people, including two children, in Newcastle West, Co Limerick.

Initial reports indicate two women and two children were found dead in a house just before 2pm this afternoon.

Gardaí are attempting to trace the whereabouts of a man who is suspected of being involved in the incident.

It is understood the suspect was married to one of the women and the two children were aged under five. The bodies of the two children were found upstairs in the house while the adults were discovered downstairs.

The area has been sealed off pending a forensic examination. A Garda spokesman confirmed that all four bodies are still at the scene and the State Pathologist's Office had been alerted.
