Sky+ functionality without subscription

    Hi

I'm thinking of getting rid of Sky but keeping the box for the FTA channels. However we have to have the ability to record the channels. The question I have is is it possible to record without having a sky subscription.

I know before you used to have to pay for a Sky+ subscription but that was removed a few years ago so now in theory I would expect it to be possible to record but with sky I imagine it is not that simple.

    Thanks in advance

No, you can't record if you have no sub.

This is what you will need to replace your sky+ box with

    Thats not strictly true...

If you can get an old english FTV Sky White card.... that has had Sky + functionality on it previously then you can use it to record the FTA channels.

I can confirm this as I have been doing so for the last 2 years myself after it was pointed out to me. I was previously using an old blue card but now have a white one and it works fine....Happy days

You can't get RTÉ from satellite without a Sky subscription, at least not until Saorsat is launched (and even when it does, it uses a completely different, incompatible satellite). For the time being, you'll need a regular aerial to pick it up either from DTT or plain old analogue.
