Guillermo del Toro is to team with Battlestar Galactica producer David Eick for a new Hulk TV series.
It was first reported last month that ABC were developing a new television adaptation of the comic character, originally created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.
Deadline now reports that Del Toro will make his television debut on the project, said to focus on an origin story for a mid-20s Bruce Banner.
The Hellboy director explained that he and Eick had "coalesced a respectful but powerful way of retelling the Banner/Hulk story in a fresh way."
Eick added: "[This is a] dream opportunity to join one of my all-time filmmaking heroes... in a faithful but unique retelling of the primal, emotionally-rich tale of one of my all-time [favourite] comic books."
Del Toro is currently attached to direct the pilot episode, which Eick will script. A combination of computer effects, prosthetics and puppetry will be used to create the monstrous Hulk.
The new series is expected to launch after the July 2012 release of The Avengers, which will star Mark Ruffalo as Banner.

Hmmm not sure what to expect. I'll remain hopeful in the meantime due to Del Toro's involvement.

I'm not a huge fan of the Hulk character. I've never read the comics so I'm basing my judgement on the two recent movies. However, with del Toro on board I will certainly give it a chance.

As long as they use the old end-credit theme tune, I will be happy...

Loved the TV show as a kid. It be interesting to see how they'd represent Hulk. I'd imagine it would have a hell of a pilot with Del Toro involved and all.

i loved the tv show better than the films

i think it is best to go with an unknown for the role

this will be dire id imagine even with someone like del toro involved. it would be extremely hard to do justice to the hulk himself - unless they have an astronomical budget. itll probably turn out to be something comparable to a bad syfy movie

I'll deffo give it a chance but i dont think the hulk is a strong enough character (obviously im not talking about physical strength here) for a show on his own. From what I remember the original was basically Dallas with a green monster for 2 mins of every episode!

Regarding the budget, I dont think that will be the biggest problem, I mean look at Smallville (which is my fav tv show of all time btw), the producers are constantly asking for more money because their budget is fairly small but they make do with what they have and in 90% of the cgi scenes they do a really good job!

CGI tech is coming on in leaps and bounds, just from watching sanctuary you can see its development the last 3 years, each season the graphics get better and better, and id say there budget is smaller than smallvilles, and think of adding another year or two to that,

hulk is a hard one to bring to screen, theres loads of story but its probably not as relatable to as it was when it was first concieved back in the 60s, our knowledge, awareness and imagination have moved so far away from the thought that a bit of radiation can do that to a man, therefore making it harder to believe a it, superman is only accpetable cause hes an alien, batman is just a very smart rich man, as is ironman, spiderman is probably the closet relatable success story to the hulk,

id love either batman or spiderman to be turned into a tv show, but id say its no where near possible to do right now,

That would be awesome alrite, but with The Batman Movies still on the go and Spiderman 4 going into production there's no hope of them being made into tv shows anytime in the foreseeable future.

The original was another one of those 80s shows were the protagonist was on the run/searching for something and each week would meet some nice people in trouble and save them before moving on. Like flashier versions of the series The Fugitive. You had The Incredible Hulk, The A-Team and Starman. I'm sure there were others. Television from the 80s seems to have been all about travelling about, helping the downtrodden.

exactly! because there wasn't any arcs to the storytelling it was always a reset to zero episode at the end
that don't fly anymore with the likes of Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica, Lost and Heroes giving us series arcs or even total run arcs
unless they throw in a better arc than he is trying to find a cure to his illness and his quest for the stretchiest pants then this ain't gonna work

Obviously not, i've been thinking for a while now that some fresh ideas are needed. I'm all for remakes and reboots as long as they're done properly but I would like to see something new....... and good!!!

Battlestar Galactica was a remake yet it was one of the best TV shows in the last 10 years. Depends on how they they pull it off. Hulk is a comic book character so I wouldnt be too critical of it being remade. After seing the trailer for the new Batman game its a pity they couldnt do a series in CGI. Justice league/avengers series would be great in CGI.

Now that is something I would love to see. Did anyone ever see the Pilot for the justice league they made back in the 90's? It was cringe worthy, but so much that it was good.... If that makes any sense??

Batman won't be made into a tv show sadly. The guys who made the Adam West Batman still have the rights to Batman in a television show. I think Smallville wanted Bruce Wayne in the show but had to settle for Green Arrow. They had some guy with a Gotham number plate but that was it. Shame cuz it could work.
Regarding the Hulk, I don't think it would work. The story might work, but CGI just does not do the Hulk justice, even in the recent Hulk movies he still looked pants.

Batman and Superman will prob never be in a live action show. Two different companies own the rights them.

I think the addition of Green Arrow to Smallville was a great move, If it was Batman then it would have taken away from the show being about Clark/Kent, at least all the other JLA members in the show are minor characters

well smallville is using clark kent so obviously the smallville creators had there permission to use there caracters, also there was the lois and clark series

and also why would the owners of either francise not want to cash in on there ownership,

The characters themselves are owned by the same people but the rights to live action movies/shows are owned by 2 different studios, and with the success of the new batman movies, the studio wouldnt release the rights to the smallville creators, its stupid but thats the way it is.

Just in case there was confusion i meant they will never be in a live action show together
