Ford Mondeo - advertised as repaired...still worth a look?

    Hey there,
I'm currently looking for a "family" car and I like the look of the Mondeo...specifically a 2.0 litre diesel. This car caught my eye:
    http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/1668788
    also advertised here:
    http://www.carzone.ie/search/Ford/Mondeo/TITANIUM/201040199773759/advert?channel=CARS

It was originally advertised as €12,950 or thereabouts, and has come down in price...but only recently it's been advertised as having been repaired (details were added at a later date) - from the ad...
"THE CAR HAD LIGHT FRONT PANEL DAMAGE WHICH RESULTED IN A NEW DRIVERS WING BEING FITTED PROFESSIONALLY USING ONLY GENUINE FORD PARTS"
This might explain the price drop...people viewing the car obviously noticed some repair work, so the seller is revising the price/ad...but my question is this:
Would you even consider this car knowing it's been damaged and repaired?
Obviously with it being a private sale I'd have no comeback if it turns out to be dodgy, so I'd have to get a mechanic to give it a once over beforehand. Really, I'm just looking for peoples opinions here!! Should I even consider it? Cheers! :D

Yeah I've been looking around, and for a similar spec it's costing around 18 - 20k. So 2k saving...but maybe it'd be worth the extra for peace of mind!?!

Every one will have their own opinions but if it was just a wing and it could be proven(reciepts/insurance assesor report for example) and my mechanic checked it and everything else was ok id consider it. Just remember if insurance paid out for any accident it will be on any car history check done in the future if you go to sell it

I'd be wary of that. I can see the difference in paint shade in the pic plus it doesn't seem to fit quite right to the front bumper. The uk reg is visable in the pics so might be worth doing a uk hpi check on it. This will cost a few bob but will tell you if the car is cat D (lightly damaged insurance write off), cat C (extensively damaged) or if nothing comes up at all. Cat D or unrecorded is ok but steer clear of anything that comes up as cat C as these are normally more trouble than they are worth. Hope this helps :)

jaysus lads...great advice all 'round! Thanks a million! I'm not too worried about cosmetic damage...more mechanical...I'll look into the UK hpi check now. Cheers! I love this forum! ;)

I would consider it also - as Kildare.17hmr said, if it can be proven that it was not an insurance write off, which I would doubt because they are leaving the car on UK plates.
How much are these cars fetching in the UK anyway? Could you get one (non damaged) from a dealer over there for the same money I wonder?
Make sure the car was NOT bought at an auction either. Make sure also about the Full Ford service history.
One last thing......why were the brake pads changes after 26,500 miles? Surely they last longer than that? (maybe not - I don't know)

My audi front pads had to be changed at 23k miles from new. My father never changes pads and he gets a new car every 3 years doing about 60k miles on each car. Depends on the driver I guess.

It was recorded Cat D on the 29/1/2010.

Would take a little more than a wing repair to have a car at around 10k written off.

The vehicle has had a few retail consumers check on HPI in the past week , hopefully someone wont get caught out.

Think I'll be avoiding this one so...thanks for that! :)

Why would car from auction be a problem ???? A very large percentage of cars in UK are leased, and most leasing companies dispose through the major UK auctions. Some of the car checking websites here are advertising an ex-auction check as part of their service, but I'd reckon that's excessively alarmist. Certainly nothing like insurance payout in terms of risk.

@op, seems a lot for a 08 Mondeo diesel on a private sale. We sold an Irish 08 diesel in July for 14,500 (with 6mths warranty) and took a trade-in at that price. Okay it was an LX with 20k more miles, but never damaged, one owner.

I presume OP was looking for the top spec model, loads of other mondeos with lower spec/trim for around 14/15k, irish cars,

Cheapest 2008 titanium x in ireland, diesel is 19500,

In the uk they are hitting between 10/11k sterling.

    VRT is 5000 also i think , not 4500

Edit - plus from the pictures it doesnt have the titanium top grill and the parking sensors are black, they are normally colour coded as far as i know.
I like the fog lamps but the pass side one seems to be missing a bit of trim, or are my eyes decieving me?
