once again ireland is being ripped off with regards to HD channels. ITV 2 3 and 4 HD are only available on Sky Because Sky are paying them a slice of the HD subscription to keep them exclusive to their pay TV platform. so why should we in Ireland pay part of our HD subs to fund channels that we cannot or will not receive.:mad::mad:

Why open a 2nd thread on more or less the same subject ?

Sky rip you off because you let them, drop your subscription and stop you're moaning.

Sorry if it sounds harsh but the only way Sky will give a damn is if you hit them in their pocket. Freesat + Saorview will meet most people needs, those who want pay TV can go to NTL/UPC .... they pay VAT to the Irish state, unlike SKY who charge VAT at UK rates and send it to the UK tax man. You'll be doing the economy a favour by dumping Sky :).

upc and NTL are utter rubbish and not available everywhere in the country so you have no choice but to get sky if you want decent tv. Saorview is just 4 channels and crap ones at that.

IMO upc and NTL are utter rubbish and not available everywhere in the country so you have no choice but to get sky if you want decent tv(I'm choosing to ignore freesat and foreign satellite services which provide English coverage for many of the same channels provide by sky for half the price). Saorview is just 5 channels and IMO crap ones at that.

I fixed the above for you.

9/10 of the top ten viewed channels in Ireland are available Free To Air either Satellite or DTT, this will be good enough for most people.

IMO - If you want SKY to be better value then you have to do something about it, dropping you're sub and hitting them in the pocket is the only answer. If you are not willing to do so then there is no point in complaining on a internet forum not in any way associated with them. I dropped them years ago and every 3 months or so I get a come back offer of a half price sub for a year.

It's all well and good being a keyboard crusader but unless you're willing to follow up with some actions you're just wasting you're time.

i contacted sky and have been offered free HD subs for 12 months and 25% off my bill.

but you still need sky for decent channels. what sport do you get on terrestrial tv.. not a lot so you need sky for premiership football.

so you need sky for premiership football.

Do you know that Sky are not the only Foreign Satellite provider available in Ireland ? There are several more with English commentary. The subs are very cheap compare to Sky, plenty of folks here using them and they are happy customers too.

If you're interested you can ask on the foreign Satellite forum - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=622 .

I get premiership football for €160 for the year. Sky isn't the necessity that a lot of people seem to think it is.

i will have a look thank you. but i doubt they will have as many games and im not investing in another dish or box just to save €68 a year

The Tring card has a lot more games than Sky. Only down side is that it is not in HD. Also, there are only 4 sports channels, so if there are more than 4 matches on at the same time, they can't show them all. Happens for the 3pm Saturday matches, and it will obviously happen on the last day of the season, when all 10 matches are on at the same time.
