no offence, but it doesnt say much about your organisation if the bands have to bring their own audience.

if bands dont bring fans there would nt be a competiton, the way we run works well as all the bands have to bring at least 10 people, this guarantee's a crowd to play 2, lots of bands bring 20 and 30 fans along so this create great atmosphere while playing, . also without the fans we would nt able to pay for the venue, engineer, give the CASh prize. I've often played gigs with 3 people in the room and would of loved a chance to play in a venue thats packed with a chance of winning something at the end of it!!

So is this an audience who votes i.e some ****e band who brings their mums and dads and all there mates or is it done by some actual judges who would give it to an actual good band?

The winners of the competition is decided by our 3 Judges not by the audience, but each band has to bring at least 10 fans along on the night to enter the competition,

but i would always recommend to every band to bring as many fans/friends as they can to the gig, cause there support will help them play better.

Do the fans have to pay in?

Besides the 2 slots which you are offering for free how much do the other bands have to pay to enter the competition? Or do the 10 fans that they have to bring along count towards an entry fee?

Also - how much is the cash prize for the winners?

Can I just say i played one of these nights and its a good laugh.

Between any band it should be no trouble getting 10 fans, you show up, pay nothing, get up and play, have a laugh, hopefully get the band a few more fans, at very least have a free practice session, simple!

Billy I'll be giving you a shout when were ready again,

    Cheers.

My band played this a few weeks back, it was good craic for a gig, but in fairness it was judged by a guy who sat at the door collecting money all night and didn't watch any bands. My band's set was cut short and some band who were honestly the worst band of the night won the "cash prize", and we had a sneaking suspicion it was a friend of the promoter who won.

For anyone who wants to play this, go for it. it's a bit'a'craic, but don't expect to win or an event that is organised well.

Tehpok I would like to say your very wrong, any of the bands who have won the competitons so far, have won because they were the best on the night, the winner is decided by different judges including the promoters, bar staff and the sound engineer. We would never give a prize to anyone we know!! Thats not the way we work, we put on a good night, and could do we out your slander!! As we really feel were gving bands a great opportunity to play front of a decent sized crowd, which is fairly haird to come by for unsigned bands!!

Not to get too into this discussion, I did say it was a great night, etc, but I knew the sound engineer on the night, a pretty good friend of mine, and I was told explicitly, that it was only the "guy" on the door who picked the winner. That's all I'll say.

ya thats true that only the 2 guys on the door were picking the winner, but at the end we went and asked the sound engineer which band he thought was the best and went with his decision, so hes going to be included in the votting system everytime now also, and just to confirm again, ther guys on the door watch every band, as the door is front of the stage, you can normally tell by the first song if the band is going to be better or worse from the previous and then we check to see what the sound engineer thinks of them to make final decision after each band!!

genuinely not trying to be a smartarse, but usually its the reputation of the promotion/venue/night etc that draws most of the crowd, especially in a botbs scenario. otherwise anyone can put on such a gig if they expect the bands to bring 60 quid to the door.

Theres alot more that goes into this than just getting a venue/ bands, which is fairly head wreaking at times, you need haven good contacts whiuch we have in Radio stations, music review magazines and TV so we can give people extra prizes to help promote them, so not anyone can just put on a gig, the main thing a band should want is GOOD promotion so STOP MOANING PLEASE!!!
