Macbook Pro charging problem

Macbook pro 13” unibody late 2008 model A1278

The laptop worked perfectly fine until one day the orange light that shows when the battery is charging turned off and the message on the screen changed from “charging” to “not charging” then I used it until it run out of charge. Since then the Macbook doesn’t turn on or shows any light. Even when you plug in the charger no light appears at all.

Had the chance to charge the battery using another mbp and then connect it to mine and the mbp did work perfectly until I run out of juice again.
I tested the charger on another friends macbook and it worked fine.

So ive come to the conclusion that the charger is fine since it charges another macbook and the logic board is fine since the laptop will boot and work fine when theres charge in the battery.
Could it be the magsafe dc-in board? Ive just bought on online last night so I hope so!

Has this happened to anyone else? Any ideas what it could be?

I think that's actually a MacBook you have, not a MacBook Pro. The 13-inch unibody MacBook was rebranded as a MBP the following year but with a non-removable battery. Which made diagnosing this kind of problem slightly harder.

Anyway, you've narrowed it down quite well. It does sound like the DC-in board is the problem.

Did you make sure there isn't dust in the connector? And reset the SMC?

I think you might be right there. It only says MacBook at the bottom of the screen even though its an aluminium unibody.

I cleaned the connectors so I dont think its dust. I actualy cant reset the SMC becuase I have no power at all left in the battary and no power is coming in from the charger. Can I reset any other way without power?

Hopefully the new dc-in board will solve the problem or else ill be selling it for parts.

    Thanks again

so i changed out the magsafe switch and no joy. I now have a dim green light that i didn't have before but it wont start up.

How much would apple charge me for a new logic board for a a1278 model macbook unibody?
Any one have one they want to sell me?

    A lot. 700+ anyway.

I'm not convinced it's the logic board though. Are you sure you installed the DC-in board correctly?

yip im pretty sure its in right. What does a dim green light mean? its dim green when the battery is both in and out.

I'm baffled by it. I guess i could have a faulty charger that wont charge the battery when its dead. I left it run out last time after i got it charged off a friends macbook.
