    Morning.
I know it's quite early but I wanted to start putting feelers out for pacers for the Cork City Marathon in June. A huge thanks to everyone who paced this years race, you all did a fantastic job and especial thanks to those who have already volunteered to pace for us again next year.

In order to try and build on the success of the 2010 pacers, I'm trying to recruit 3 pacers per pace group to ensure that at least 2 make it to the start (we had 2 last year, which, after drop-outs had some people pacing on their own, no easy feat).

    The groups are
    3:00, 3:15, 3:30, 3:45, 4:00, 4:30 and 5:00
Ideally if you're interested in pacing, you should volunteer for a group that is approx 30 minutes slower than one of your recent marathon times. You should also have some experience of running marathons so that you're well within your comfort zone. A good pair of lungs is also an advantage to help encourage your pacees (yes I'm looking at you Le Cheile!)
For the 3:00 and 3:15 groups, it might be tough to get suitable runners who can comfortably hit the times so we will look a pacers to do 1/2 marathon and who can swap over at the appropriate place. For the slower groups we should have no problem with people to do the full distance.

If you're interested, just add yourself below with the time you would like to pace and I'll give you access to the pacers sub-forum and be in touch with a bit more information.

Finally, Thanks to everyone who paces or has paced marathons. It's a huge thing to give up your time and energy to help people reach their goals but runners really appreciate and benefit from it.

How quick these things come around:D
Id be happy to help out again. How strict is the timeframe between pb and paced time?
Does consistancy count for anything. Nice to get the ball rolling on the discussion early:D

Id be interested in 4.30 - that way il be comfortable enough to never stop yapping at the runners. Working with kids lately has made me very shouty and talkative.

We'll see. i really fancy the idea of doing a few pacing gigs to keep endurance up after the ultra in April, then having another crack at a marathon PB next autumn.
pacing is fun and i'll still be down for the night out afterwards :pac:

Gringo, one of the sub fora at the top alongside gear and events. It's a private forum for discussing all things pacing so if you don't have access, pm me or the others mods and we'll sort you out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,991 ✭✭✭metamorphosis

Can you throw me in for 4.30?

    3:15|seanynova|
    3:15|sosa|

Can you put me down for 3:30? I'd be on for 3:15 also but doing 3:30 would give Sosa a great chance to finish ahead of me in the Cork Marathon

    Nicely filled out already!

I'm not sure how plans will shape up this year but if you are stuck I'd happily run half of the sub 3 with the human metronome Mick. Maybe keep me as a reserve in case of drop outs further back the pack too?

Id love give 3:30 or 3:45 pacing a go, saw the buzz in d.c.m the pacers get going with the group that follow them well up for either one.
