Danger looms in the east endzone of Wrigley Field for Northwestern vs Illinois

I have a hard time believing that the person who ultimately made the decision to hang that goalpost from the brick right field wall at Wrigley Field...leaving virtually ZERO room past the end line...has ever even seen an American football contest. Seriously. Who would do that?

Why did they move the traditional gridiron placement in the first place? For 48 years (1922-1970) the Chicago Bears played home games at Wrigley Field with the sideline running parallel to the Cubs dugout/3rd base line and the end zone in left field (shown below)...leaving at least some extra room beyond the end line. What genius came up with the new configuration?

Should make for some nice flinching when catching a TD pass!

You'll need some Arena league padding on the wall for sure

Is this for real? If so, it's an incredible design. Is that an insurance company advertisement on the high risk protrusion? "You're in good hands..." What a craic!

Wrigley Field is not a big playing area

Was talking to a friend in Chi Town earlier and he said those walls are already padded. Those All State ads are actual padding.

Still seems a tad insane to have very little room for error in an End Zone.

They are really squeezing that field into a small space.

Where is the team and the coaches on the side closest to 1st base going to stand and sub in.

The other side has a ton of space, are they both going to stand on the side closest to 3rd base?

Yes, I'd say both teams will be on the same side
There seems to be two purple marked zones there in the photo with a dividing area in white. A team in each zone

Yankee stadium seems a lot better suited for Football:

Just for the sake of it, i think this is the coolest (terrible pun :P) crossover of a baseball park:

LA does not currently have an NFL team. Here are plans for a stadium complex in the City of Industry (close to LA) intended to attract a team:

Just announced that they will be using only 1 endzone at Wrigley because it's too dangerous.

Poor bastards thought they had good seats in the endzone, now everything will be moving in the opposite direction :pac:.

    How will they do that?

Both offenses will attack opposite the problematic endzone.

I was thinking that. Presumably pick 6's won't be disallowed? :pac:

For anybody who's interested, more sport stadium crossovers:

The two coolest are the two Federer is involved in.
