I've written a simple javascript program that converts your address into a constituency then redirects you to the politicswiki page on that constituency.

    http://www.politicswiki.ie/Special:ConstituencyFinder

Let me know if you find any bugs or recommend any improvements.

Will be especially handy once the election arrives :)

Tomorow I will going through every Constituency page to add links to sites like check the register and wikipedia; cut the information down to just the currently elected TDs and when it comes to it add each candidate for election.

Great idea. However, mine isn't showing up at all. And I'm putting the same address I've lived in all my life, and used all my life. All my post has always got to me at this address. The said address is also in Irish.

Perhaps you could incorporate the names in the superb new Logainm.ie, the official placenames website of the state of Ireland? The developers in DCU/Fiontar would undoubtedly have a way you could do this very easily.

    Go n-éirí an t-ádh leat.

May I just say well done. I'm sick of people just moaning and saying "sure what's the point in voting, they're all the same" and other such drivel.

Anything that makes it easier for people to engage in politics is a good thing, so fair play. Btw, site works fine for me but on first attempt I didn't even see the "yes, that's where I live" button. Perhaps a change of colour wouldn't go amiss there.

    Well done OP

Though it can't find me in Tipperary
And took out the townland and village and left just the town, still not there

Not complaining, will try again later

My Constituency for my Calrecastle address is 15 miles East of Los Angelese California.

Man these TDs are really taking the piss! Or, this tool is bugged.

Irish Addresses don't google well, owed to the lack of ZIP. And house numbers

    Thanks for the positive views.

Yeah the problem is that google doesn't actually understand your address.

However I may be able to fix that.

The problem is that in order to test out the errors you are experiencing I need to get your addresses.

if you could send a full description of the issue you are having to admin@politicswiki.ie including the postal address you used to cause the problem.

Or you could post it here, but that isn't safe if you are using your home address.

The information will not be used by me other than to fix the bug and will not be passed on to any third party.

Thanks that is awesome to hear :)

Would you like to take part?

I got an error finding my constituency but when I moved the marker slightly and tried again it found it. Maybe a small initialisation bug?
