    Hi,

Looking for some recommendations on skiing resorts in Austria. There's a group of around 7-8 of us going and we've all been a couple of times so would be looking for somewhere good for an intermediate level. Also looking for somewhere at the cheaper end of the scale where we can easily get self-catering accommodation and can easily arrange our own flights, transfers etc.

    Looking at the following:

Somewhere on the Skiwelt (not Soll as have been before)
    Bad Gastein
    Mayrhofen
    Kitzbuhel

    Thoughts?

forget the above, head straight to st anton
    it never disappoints
cheaper accommodation will be a challenge though
    but its worth it
fly in and out of salzburg or that tiny german airport that ryanair have taken over

Cheap access to St Anton is difficult, Salzburg is too far and that German airport is no longer served by Ryanair, (presuming Friedrichshafen was meant).
Maybe possible via Zurich and AerLingus although I've tried that route.

Zurich is less than 2hrs from St Anton. Kitzbuhel is nice, but it's quite low down. Unfortunately we were there in 2007, so the snow was pretty crappy. But the town is nice! :)

heading to austria myself in january with 5-6 people.
st. anton has been recommened by several people so going to go with that i think.

flights €189 with aerlingus to Zurich.
i found accomodation that sleeps 6 people for a week for 580 euro.
have not booked it yet as still looking. it's 10 mins walk from the town centre so prob a little far out

    have you found anything yet?

Thanks everyone. Decided on Mayrhofen. Renting a 4 bed apartment in the centre of the town which is good value and looks very nice. Going to fly in to Memmingen airport and arrange a transfer from there. Working out better value than any of the tour operators.

Good chocie, myself and the family were in Mayrhofen a couple of years ago, great resort with plenty of bars and restaurants, and really good slopes, if ya can, avail of the extra excursions, we did the midnight tobagan run and snow mobiling. Best holiday I've had so far.

    Cracking choice

Would try this guy for ski rental best place for it in the village and he is based at the top of the Gondola so no lugging your gear around.

my advice would be to rent an x-bed apartment in the centre of the town (which is good value and looks very nice) and fly into Memmingen airport - arrange a transfer from there btw

    Hi there,
Could you please let me know how you booked that apartment? Did you book it online or through an agent? Thanks :)
