Running laptop PSUs from 12V inverters

I've been looking at 12V inverters on eBay lately, and one I noticed said it had a square-wave output. Does anybody know if this would be OK for a laptop power adapter ?

why not just get a 12V laptop adaptor instead ?

most of the allow you to match the voltage and come with 5 or 6 connectors to match different brands of laptops

Thanks, not a bad idea in principle; just had a look on ebay, nothing seemed to have a power plug like my dell, it's not a coaxial type. Also a separate inverter would be more flexible, i.e. I could use it for other things too.

But what about my original query (square-wave output)

square wave is synonymous ith cheap and nasty , decent inverters produce sine waves. Universal motors, heaters and lights won't complain to much but for most other things a sine wave is preferred.

If the inverter kills you laptops power supply you have worse problems than if you are using a separate 12V PSU for it
