Can you be a little more specific. What OS are you running? What are you using to monitor your bandwidth?

have you checked to see what processes are running?

have you checked the Windows/currentversion/RUN key (i think thats the one) to see what programs are running at startup?

download Superantispyware and spybot S&D from a different PC, restart in safemode and run them (you may need to isntall spybot in normal mode first but Superantispyware has a USB version that you can run from a USB key without having to install). Once you get the spybot.

Antoher good one is hijackthis, download and run, select to save a text file fo the result. go to www.hijackthis.de and paste in the reulting file, see if anythign dodgy turns up.

If all that is clear, it could be someone piggybacking on your wireless connection assuming you have one.

If you dont use wireless, disable it on the router and laptop.

If you do use wireless, go to your configuration settings and change the security settings (use WPA instead of WEP), tie connection to a MAC address if the option is there (use ipconfig /all to get the mac address of your wireless card on your XP machine).

300mb, you sure it wasnt auto update dragging down SP3 ?

it looks like an o2 broadband dongle - so no piggy backing on wireless.

it's most likely windows updates or new version of itunes or some other program like this.

I assume those apps are some form of filesharing apps (Mediaportal and 360proshare).
Theres a strong chance those apps are downloading or uploading data in the background.
As others have mentioned you need to remove these two apps from starting up (start run type msconfig, startup tab) or perhaps uninstall them altogether.

Looking at your PCHelpForum topic, it seems like you're making headway there and that the problem is down to P2P programs. Adware, viruses etc.. Just keep doing what they say and you'll soon be sorted.

What astonishes me was that you were able to donload 300mb on an O2 dongle :D

Disconnect from the web until you get all these apps removed

Any idea what your quota is and how much you will be charged per mb over it? I suspect you'll have a big bill coming your way.

Got it sorted.By using the advise from LoLth and pcforumhelp it was easy so to everyone thanks.

10cent a mb i think, though it adds up to a bundle of big bucks in the end.
