Urgent help needed with rover 75 clutch

Hi all, I bought a Rover 75 diesel in February and have out 23,000 miles on it since. The clutch has started to make loud clicking noises but is still working. The garage tells me the dual mass flywheel needs replacing along with the clutch at a cost of €900. Can this be done cheaper or can cheaper parts be sourced? This would put serious financial strain on me at the moment so any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

not sure about fly wheel as this should be checked once clutch is out. sounds more like garage people covering themselves

sub-frame has to come out so it is a bit of time consuming job

if you are changing the clutch , i would suggest that you change slave clutch cylinder as is bolted inside gearbox housing so no way of getting to it when it actually goes

you can try this guy for parts

DMF is study enough on the 75, lots of labour though for a clutch change on one regardless of if the DMF needs doing or not as the chap above mentioned, subframe off job, fairly rotten really. €900 for a clutch and DMF on a 75 sounds more than about right really, unfortunately.

Checked out prices all over the web and no difference in what I'm being quoted for parts. Will just have to go with it and take the hit.
Was going to sell it and probably will do so after work is completed. It is a connisuer model and fully loaded with all the toys. Anyone advise me on how much it is worth with 113,000 miles on the clock?
    Thanks for help.

Why not keep driving it with the noise in it until it gets really bad... could go another 23k.

What year is it ? Much NCT left ? Genuine Irish car or in from UK ? Service history ? How long is a piece of string ?

    Full service history
String is about 3.5 yards long!

    Any ideas on price now?

    +1

Was just posting €4k tops when I saw your post. Auto diesel is much more desirable. DMF is the invention of the divil :D

After VRT the whole cost was just shy of 5K. Would hope to get close to 4K for it now.

    A grand depreciation and a clutch isn't bad for 23K miles :)

Diagnosis is spot on, your car has a DMF (Dual Mass Flywheel clutch), parts are around 500-600 Euro, there is no solid flywheel conversion kit available for your make/model.
