Making loose covers for sofas is a complicated job that requires a very large amount of fabric. I made a loose cover for a sofa, then eventually tried to buy one and discovered that it was actually cheaper to buy a new sofa.

That sounds about right, I was quoted that about 5 years ago for a cover and six (back and seat) cushions. I had to strip and dismantle a good sofa because it simply was not possible to recover it unless I did it myself, and it was a lot of work the previous time I had done it.

I got a sofa cover in Italy for 80euro. They are very cheap there and you can find a lot of different types. I don't know how good is your italian but check this link to get an idea on some of the types.
