In the interests of annoying our revenue-hungry government and standing up for the long suffering Irish motorist, can someone please invent an iphone App to fight these new garda speed cameras. (of which there is 23 per county!!)

I'm thinking an app which uses the iphone's GPS for motorists to warn other motorists of the presence of a Gatso Van. If driver A spots a van, he presses a button which logs the presence of a Gatso Van to a central database updated in real time, so driver 2 gets warned.......simples,

Any coders out there willing to do this in the national interest?

Good observation is generally enough. The camera's in a van, after all.

Oh thats obvious, a van, I should've known that. because obviously the only vans on the road are garda vans. Couriers and builders don't use vans?

. . . .or you could just drive at a legal speed on the roads which have been designated as dangerous and worthy of monitoring. If you're caught there is really only one person to blame!

Speed detection vans are fairly obvious, not least because of where and how they're parked. I'm not saying it's impossible for an alert driver to be caught, but it's generally the dozy who don't see them.

There's an Irishspeedtrap.com in the top 10 apps on app store. It gets crap reviews compared to trapster though. Anyone tried either of these apps ?

Been using Trapster in Cork for a good while now. It was fantastic, everyone would report checkpoints/cameras, and you'd get push notifications if you were within say 2 miles of the area.

Then they changed something, and screwed it up. We started getting notifications for Germany, some people in Dublin were getting Dutch ones, but we didn't get any local ones again. The people at Trapster have said 'meh, don't know why that is, sorry', and a few months on, they're no closer to figuring out why.

    Confirm it.
The same in Poland, and pretty much most of the Continent of Europe.
Truck drivers always use CB's to inform each other about traffic situation, speed cameras, police patrols, etc.
In recent years lots of car drivers bought CB sets as well, so if there's a speed camera or police patrol on the way, you always know.
You can buy a CB set for under 100 euros, but I can't really see any point in Ireland, as barely anyone has it. So there would be no one to get information from.
I was surprices when I arrived in Poland in 2009, and saw about every 10th car has an CB aerial on the roof. That's a lot.

Besides - when driving somewhere using couple cars - f.e on holidays with friends, it very nice to have CB's, as you can easily communicate and have some fun on the way.

Obviously not holding the phone while driving. It'd be a pity to get done yourself while helping someone else avoid getting done for speeding.:p
