Problem installing Medieval II Kingdoms.

So basically I bought both Medieval II and the Kingdoms expansion in disc form because I wished to play a kingdoms mod. Anyway, Medieval II installed fine, but when I press 'install' on the Kingdom's page I get...

'All Medieval II Total War: Kingdoms products are already installed. Aborting installation.'

    What next?

I have both games on Steam but its difficult/impossible to play the mod via Steam.

Sounds like something is left over from a previous install. Have you uninstalled the Steam versions?

No. Surely, if Steam was the problem, then I wouldn't have been able to install Medieval II itself?

    Thanks for the reply btw.

Admittedly, I'm not pc savvy enough to explain this myself. But I do remember guys having trouble with this because of conflicting registry entries or something.... I'll see if I can find any of the threads I had read before.

    In the meantime, Google gave me this;

Has the same error message you're getting?

    Yeah I saw that...
    Run regedit,
    Go to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall]
Search for "medieval", delete the whole entry, install medieval.
Don't install kingdoms, only open the CD and run the installer from Update2 and Update3.

I've down the first part already to no avail, but I'm entirely lost regarding the part in bold...? What does he mean?

Sorry Orizio, having technical problems here, hence the delay.

I honestly don't know what he means with the bolded part - he's saying delete MII by editing the reg and then install it again, and then the two patches for it off the Kingdoms disc. I assume he then wants that OP to install Kingdoms, but he doesn't say.

Anyway, sorry I can't be of further assistance. My only advice would be to open an account on TWC itself and ask for help there. Generally speaking, they're a pretty clued in and helpful community. Good look with it!

Yeah I did, didn't really get me anywhere. Evidently its an install problem somewhere, but its hard to pin-point.
